    Hi All,

ive got half life 2 and installed and played it fine for ages. however I had to perform a system repair after some files got damaged and when i go to reinstall it, it comes up with an error, whilst trying to instal, saying that a file could not be installed and the disc may be corrupt or the process. Any ideas?

    Heres the error -

    ERROR 1334
The file 'hl2.ico1' cannot be found in cabinet fiel 'hl24.cab'. This could indicate a network error, an error reading the CD-ROM or a problem with the package.

Then after I click ok it cancels the installation.

right, i got a similar error (could have been the same one), when i tried to re-install it after a fresh windows install (no problem the first time). I beleive the answer lies in one of two things (or a combo of the two)

    1. "If you are getting an error during the installation of your HL2 cd/dvd please exit the installer and run Steam on it's own. There were changes made to the installer files after the cd/dvds were printed that requires an update from Steam. Once Steam has finished downloading it's update you can exit and run the installer again without recieving the error."

    2. "If during the initial installation process the option to install "Counter-Strike: Source" is NOT selected, an error may occur during installation. The message will be: cabinet file error, fatal disk error, or something similar."

If you receive one of these errors you will need to do the following:

Cancel the current installation process and reinstall the game from the beginning, starting with Disk #1. Make certain to select the option to install both Half-Life 2 and Counter-Strike: Source.

Note: If you prefer not to retain the Counter-Strike: Source program on your system AFTER INSTALLATION, you can
remove it using the following procedure:
    * After Half-Life 2 has been successfully installed, open up the Steam client.
    * Select the Play Games list
    * RIGHT click on Counter-Strike: Source and select Properties
    * Select "Delete Local Content."

I think choosing to install Counterstrike, sorted it out for me.

    good luck

    joe

that is the solution Joe its all to do with CS:S. it needs to be installed says so on the steam forums. this is totally stupid imo but i think they purposely did it so you have to install CS:S. i did a total re-install of it and selected both. then be prepared for the hours of steam updating the 2 games :( its the biggest pile of poo ive seen. oh well at least you know the solution now
