When I turned on my PC today, Steam started its update of a HL2 deathmatch!

Looks like Valve are actually listening to peoples complaints!

CS Source may be good but its no HL2 Multyplayer!

Have you guys played this new deathmatch?

    Update!

Too much lag and only one map makes this boring very quickly.

On the upside. The grav gun. And all the weapons from the maingame! The colt being the best I would say. 1 shot 1 kill!

Still, seems to be the same principle as CS Source. Aim for the head. You can still take several body shots though and you can recharg your HEV suit and health.

All the NPCs are there. Apart from the main charachters. No Gordon or G-Man.

I download this yesterday and found it wouldn't load then HL2 wouldn't load??
Tried restarting Steam but no joy. Read on a NG of some kind off bug in the software and will re-try tonight when i get home from work.
New ninja power pc being delivered to-morrow and can't wait to transfer my Steam folder across and turn all options up to max :) for full Gordon Freeman enjoyment.

I think this has the potential to be huge and will outstrip CS:S. It's gonna take time to build the maps up though.

Lots a people complained about CS source being the main multyplayer game for HL2 so eventually valve had to cave and make a propper HL2 multy.

It is good over all. But needs many more LARGER maps. And no spawn camping! Its madness at the moment!

I tend to find that 'death match' gets very dull very quickly ...... and if the only thing making it interesting is the grav gun, than it will be novelty value for a while. Doubt it will have the same impact and longevity of CS.

Think you underestimate the HL following :smoke:

It will be huge, maybe not as huge as HL DM was but big just the same.

Not really - I am basing it of past 'history' with regards to HL(1) and CS ... plus all the other games and their multiplayer options.

Having played alot of games in multiplay - HL(1) deathmatch / team fortress etc - back when they started .... and on and off over time time now, they just didn't have the levels of support that CS did.
Running a game server costs money - if you can't get that many players to fill your server 24/7 then you tend to find someting else more popular to put on there.
Many games multiplayer suffer through lack of server support - ie the amount of players on line at any one time and the amount of servers to play on.

The fact that CS is so popular and has the most internet game servers available - with the most clans, players, game sites, leagues, gives the impression that it most likely will NOT be over run by HL deathmatch.

Look at the number of servers out there for Quake, UT and now Doom3 and the numbers of online players ... and match that to the CS servers.
I don't think I am underestimating anything - I am simply doing the math.

Played DM last night for the first time and wow , such realistic looking environs. Gravitity guns a bit off a laugh but no skill needed and will soon become a bit of a pain i think.
Really looking forward to DOD now more than ever.

It's start though. Can only get better once folk get to grips with it.

3 maps  your playing on the wrong servers, I have 15 maps in my maps folder after a day on 1 server.

Some are truely terrible but funny as hell, 14 players a grav gun and loads of them saw blades in a small square room lol carp but funny :rotfl:

    15 maps????

Are you sure they are Valve maps? I can only presume they are something bummed together by gamers.

I only played it briefly, way to many pseudo servers (read Joe Bloggs Pentium 3 sat on a 512mb ADSL connection) to tell what' worth playing on.

Game play is fun, albeit gimmicky IMO, fun to use the gravity gun in MP mode, but can't say it was a great experience. I don't think it holds a candle to DOD, COD, UO, hell even PA to some degree and while DM is personal taste, I can't stand the taste of it, gimme an objective game type any day.

Soz, rantings of an old git, It has potential but really needs development. Based on the huge HL2 ownership already and the CS groundbase it's liable to do well, but it ain't a patch on the ww2 efforts already out there.
