Ebuyer are selling this plasma at an amazing price and the spec looks pretty good but does anyone have any knowledge of this screen is it as good as they reckon in the few reviews on the ebuyer site?

I finally took the plunge and ordered one it arriving on Tuesday. I'm a bit nervous as to whether it will be any good or not but will let you know the outcome. If not it's going straight back!

FYI from the specs is seems to be EDTV not HDTV which isn't a concern to me anyway.

I would be more worried about how they ship it. If it's by City Link, I wouldn't want to rate your chances of it arriving intact. Many of my Ebuyer deliveries arrive with hob-nail boot marks on the boxes

Sorry about the delay 999dom999. The plasma arrived on Tuesday in very good condition - no boot marks etc! My first impressions are that the quality is excellent crisp and clear even watching Sky via scart. I played Lord of the Rings last night using progressive scan and the image was nearly faultless. It has PIP, supports the different progressive and interlaced resolutions as in the spec but it will down convert these to 852*480. It also has all the inputs and outputs you could ever need except it doesn't have HDMI which aparently Sky will be using for it's HDTV service. I haven't tried connecting a PC yet but my PC doesn't have DVI so I can't test it to it's limits anyway.

I have not had a lot of experience looking at different plasmas to compare the difference but I can definately say that I am very happy with my purchase. I must admit however that the £899 price was what convinced me it's a shame it's gone up again.

If you have any other questions let me know.

    Hi samcressy,

Seriously thinking of getting one of these bad boys....

My only concern is the speakers (7W x 2) seems a little weak...

    Is this the case ??

Also, what do the speakers look like ? Are they attached to the plasma or are they free standing ?

    Many Thanks in advance.

Guys, do some Googling. First check out this thread : http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?p=5420678#post5420678

It's an SD (Standard Definition) screen that can 'support' (ie. downsample) higher res content - just like they all can.

It has DVI - but crucially, no HDMI (so no copy-protected SKY HD content will display). And it doesn't support native at 50MHz, either.

Why get this rather than a PWD7 or a PE50?

    Hi zonemikey

The speakers do mount on the sides and look quite nice. I haven't fiddled with the sound settings yet (I am using a Denon SD500 home cinema for sound) but from what I've heard from the speakers the sound quality is pretty poor with no bass. If you don't have a decent sound setup take this into consideration.

Sulis to be honest I will be returning to Australia around the time Sky HDTV comes in so won't need HDMI anyway. To anyone who will be wanting to use sky's new HDTV service later in the year I would look somewhere else because I believe that you will have a problem with copy protection if you try and convert the signal.

    Hi all
I have taken the plunge and bought this plasma from ebuyer. the picture is superb! however from the moment i turned it on it has a rather loud noise coming from the back, i thought it would probably go in time but now it is louder than ever! when the screen is dark its not so audible but when it goes bright it is very distracting and as it gets warmed up it can start to give me a headache!. The noise is a bit like a large florrecent strip light that is on its way out, at times i can even hear it in the room next door! This cant be normal, could you tell me if yours gives off the same noise? im thinking of returning it. If it wasnt for this i would buy another so any response would be gratefully received. Ive only had for three days
    Thanks

    darrenjames,

This is by no means normal...

If you mute the Haier Plasma it should make NO noise at all. It is a fan free plasma... Mine is as quiet as when it is off...

I suggest you send it back.

    Hope this helps.

    Hi darrenjames

My Plasma does the same thing. It seems to be the power supply or something else at the back which is noisy. Anybody else having the same problem?

    thanks all!!
Ive decided to return my plasma. Shame though, i love the picture! just cant live with the noise. Any way life is a bitch!. I dont know if to risk getting another (if they have got any left) or to choose another plasma. Like i said i love the picture and most of the other plasmas ive seen (around the £1000 mark) are dogs in comparison.

I've had a panasonic 42" viera since last christmas. I was very impressed with the TV Excellent picture, fantastic looking piece of equipment, etc... But VERY POOR SOUND QUALITY! When you look at paying £3k for a tv then you would expect it to be like being at the cinema! lol

I connected the panasonic up through a 5.1 surround sound system and muted the sound on the TV, and then IT was faultless.... UNTIL....

I split up with my Girlfriend and she chose to take the tv! lol

So I went onto Ebuyer and bought the Haier P42LV6

    My comparisons so far:

Not as good build quality, ie materials used, but still good
    sound pretty similar
Picture seems BETTER on the Haier
Haier was £2500 cheaper (got it for £949.99 Delivered!!!)

So I would go for the Haier!

Incidentally, on the box and the literature, it states "HDTV Ready" so there may be some trading standards issues there; I cannot legitimately quote on this as I haven't looked into it, and to be honest, when Sky start their new service, it's going to be probably so damn expensive, it won't be worth it anyway.

The picture is so crisp, I can't see how it could get any better to be honest!

So if you had any doubts, I hope that this has settled your mind!
