An AV retailer offered it to me for a price, its only a burnt cd for crying out loud, they could have been generous but I may have to go for it, can't find it anywhere. Some other people I talked to selling a multi-region version said they hadn't had any orders yet, so didnt have a firmware for it yet. Maybe I should hold on for a little while.

Alot of people have been asking me for the firmware. It's worked for all but one person, not sure what went wrong for him, perhaps a corrupt download. If you want the firmware i'm afraid you do it at your own risk. Alternatively, anyone know of a website I can send the firmware to so more have access to it?

Sorry, i've been away from the forum for a while. It's on my webspace, http://www.leedsdig.plus.com/ Soooo many people have asked for it, makes more sense to have it up there. Make sure you check your copy of the download with my md5 checksum before burning.

Thanks sasquatch for putting up the MR fix for 500SD. Has anyone here used sasquatch's multiregion hack firmware on <http://www.leedsdig.plus.com/>?
Just got my 500SD from Peter Tyson. Wondering if you got any tips/ faced any hurdles while using this firmware. Did u have to build a dummy file AADUMMY.XXX. (any file of roughly 40MB or more)? Any issues after using this firmware?
    Cheers

I'm not entirely sure the dummy file is necessary but it came with it on the disc i got. No harm in trying it without.

    Hi,
Sasquatch, if you dont mind my asking, where did u get the hack disc from? I would feel much better if somebody, who has tried this hack out on the 500SD, can confirm the effects.
    Cheers

Tried it on Fri...worked like a charm. Definitely certify that link, as long as follow all the steps mentioned by sasquatch on the "leedsdig" site.

Please...someone...save my sanity and explain in real easy terms how to do this! It is driving me mad! This is what I have tried so far -

    1. Downloaded the firmware file and checksum verifier. The checksum file will not download (053e053c0ca26cc15dcf037068e4c544 *ADV50000.ROM)? Shows as text only?

    2. Tried using the verifier but have got no where (probably something to do with the checksum file thing from above). Tried just copying the checksum as text but I guess this totally wrong?

    3. Burned the firmware to disc anyway with a dummy file - dummy file showed but firmware did not.

    4. Tried again with just the firmware on the disc - nothing showed up at all.

Please - before I waste any more discs - where am I going wrong?

    Hi Sasquatch,

You mentioned that you also have the firmware for the Denon 550SD. I would be interested in giving that a go if you can post it to your weblink.

    Cheers,

    Rosetti.

New to this but downloaded the firmware and gave it a go - worked a treat! Didn't seem to need to put a dummy file in front of it just did the checksum, burnt it to a CD-RW and put it in the tray. Came up with an 'erase' message first (Gulp!), then a write message and hey presto!! Many thanks for the link man, really appreciate it.

    Dear Sasquatch,
Just to let OS X Mac users know that your firmware "upgrade" for the Denon DHT 500SD works absolutely fine. The file on your website downloads as ADV50000.ROM.TXT - I deleted the .TXT from its name and buned it to a CD together with a zip file I created and renamed AADUMMY.XXX and selected "CD for Mac or Windows" option. The CD worked first time and my DVD player is now successfully multiregion - a million thanks. John

    Hi guys.

Please look at the thread carefully. Sasquatch has been kind enough to host the files on his website. His message appears a few posts ago. I will repeat it here for your benefit: http://www.leedsdig.plus.com/.

It would be nice of you to READ the thread before posting.

If you read my message correctly I am looking for the firmware for the 550SD not the 500SD. That link is only for the 500SD.

    Again, can anyone help?

Hi all, I have the 550 firmware too, although it doesn't say so on the webpage. I don't even have a Plusnet account anymore so i'm suprised its still up. When it does eventually get deleted tell me and i'll host it elsewhere.

The firmware is at www.leedsdig.plus.com/E5D057_GC0S.ab5 The checksum is E946727CEB34C56AA27F80820A278EAB, Use the checksum program at http://www.irnis.net/soft/acsv/ to check you have an uncorrupted copy of the file. Burn the firmware to a disc and follow the instructions below, they're different to the ones on my site. No need to use a dummy file with this firmware,

Feel free to ask any questions,

    Sasquatch

    DVD-550SD software mod

    1. Connect the DVD player to your display device
    2. Power up the DVD player
    3. Using the remote control, type in 9876 then press the "search mode" button on the bottom left of the remote
    4. when the tray opens, put in the mod disc and close the tray
    5. wait for the reading, erasing and programming process to complete (approx 5
    minutes wait)
    6. When the tray opens, take out the disc but DO NOT CLOSE THE TRAY
    7. Unplug the DVD from the mains (do not close tray), wait a few seconds then plug back into socket.
    7. The software update is now complete.
