Question for those of yous who have had a chance to demo both of these units. How does the 7205 compare to the H77? Im deciding between these 2 units and Ive seen the H77 in action but havent been able to get a demo of the 7205.

only thing i would keep in mind is that optoma are about to release the H79 which is quite improved over the H77 so it may be worth a small wait.

PaulB thanks for the link, it appears that Optoma have changed a lot of parts over the H77.

Hopefully the H77 will come down in price once this is launched, unless Optoma are going to use the H79 to target the higher end of the market.

I've seen it suggested the H79 will be priced somewhat higher than the 77 and not seen as a replacement, it was also suggested it isn't certain the 79 will be released in a UK version.

Can't recall where or when, it was recent though and on here somewhere I'm pretty sure.

    KraGorn,

You are indeed correct. It is my understanding, gained from a supremely authoritative source, that in all probability we will not see the 79 in the UK. There is no current intention to release this machine here.

Erm, as you well know the guys at Themescene did a reasonable amount of tweaking to the 77 to get it right for the UK. To paraphrase what I have been told doing the same for the 79 would involve a lot of sweat for not much improvement in PQ!

Not sure on that as some of the main improvments on the H79 are PAL related. (colour wheel speed for pal is now selectable to get rid of all judder)

    Not saying your wrong though.

The H79 adds Dark chip 3 tech( improved mirror speed to kill contouring etc)
4000:1 contrast and improved brightness. and better picked optics and a few other improvments here and there

For a review and screenshots see here

Price is also the same MRRP as the H77 in the USA, and is expected to discount the same as well.

I won an H77 and have seen a 7205 at adealers too. Not a lot of picture quality difference from what I could see, but the 7205 was far noisier - same the the 7200 i used to own.

    Gandley,

You are most probably right, apart from the statement that the 77 gets discounted at all from the RRP  ;)

I was just passing on valuable (at least if you are waiting for something that isn't going to turn up!) info from an 'in the know' source.

How do you figure there is no discount in the USA which i refer to, becuase there is. Not the same in the UK but the H79s first MRRP is the same as what the H77s was so i dont see a price difference. Optomas PJs tend then to drop in price by a fair margin from release, which is what i call a discount, others may call it a price adjustment.

be sad if they dont release in the UK as it looks quite a nice bit of kit thats overcomes all of the H77 weaknesses. which would make for a dam fine Pj TBH

    Next question then is:

Is the H79 going to be better than the 7210?

they both use the DC3, and yet from the specs ive seen the contrast ratio on the optoma device is huge compared to the infocus.

any retailers stocking the 7210 yet?

will they both be at the Bristol Sound and Vision show at the end of the month?

the infocus 72xx units tend to be much brighter, which favour rooms that are less light controlled. However this will be at the expense of contrast and colour accuracy.

Whereas the optomas will be more vibrant but at the expense of brightness thus needing more light controll to get the best from the PJ

Not quite. Very similar hardware (not that I can remember the subtler differences) but different firmware. Mitsubishi bit my head off at the launch when I asked if it was the same!! But the guy was Japanese and his translator didn't know the english for even 3:2 pulldown (15 minutes of hand gesturing and saying the words 3 and 2). so I didn't get much out of him!
