Anyone else using an Optoma H77 with a 3910 and connecting via HDMI? I have a problem whereby I cannot see the moving black/white bars on the needle pulse set up screens and am therefore unable to set the contrast and brightness correctly (other than by eye).

I am connecting the 3910 using HDMI. If I switch to component I see the bars as normal but switching to DVI/HDMI and they disappear and cannot be made visible no matter what contrast and brightness settings I use.

I believe it may be the 3910 at fault (crushing the blacks and whites) as another forum member has used a Pio 868 and sees them perfectly. The 3910 gamma curve setup screen only allows for black level to 16 and white level to 234. Could this be the reason?

Anyone got any suggestions? Sensible ones only please  After all my bin is not big enough to fit the 3910 in

    Thanks

    Neil,

Does it make any difference if you select 0 IRE or 7.5 IRE ?

The 3910 does not have those settings per se. Rather Enhanced and Normal settings. Enhanced just makes the whole image darker but does not make the bars visible :(

Are there any other colour options in the Denons' menus such as 'movie' or 'video'? If selecting a different one doesn't work, try the adjustable black level (on the Denon). It sounds like it's set too low within the player under the HDMI setting, and will need raising to display the bars.

    Messiah:

The 3910 does have adjustable IRE.
Press "Picture Adjust" on the remote, go to last option "SET". You can toggle between 0IRE and 7.5IRE. Try 7.5IRE

Haven't yet had a go with either of these toys (waiting on a H77) but do either have the option to switch DVI input over to video mode rather than PC??? Usually on the PJ.

The H77 has a Video / Film / TV option but they make no difference at all.

    Thanks.

Beg to differ but they do, albeit subtle. They appear to be different gamma settings. "Film" definitely suits DVD the best.

Sorry. I meant they make no difference as to me being able to see the black bars on the Avia test patterns. I realise they make a difference to actual watching otherwise ther'ed really be no point in having them :D
