Surprised its not up already.

News: H1Z1 teaser site points to imminent Sony Online Entertainment reveal - CVG UK

Sony Online Entertainment may be close to revealing details on a new project, rumoured to be titled H1Z1.

The H1Z1 site, spotted yesterday by PC Gamer, corresponds with a trademark application filed by Sony Online Entertainment in January.

While little is known about the title, SOE president John Smedley teased a series of images on Twitter in January which pointed to what some have speculated is a survival zombie game.

These theories are supported by the H1Z1 trademark, which references a 2009 internet hoax which riffed on the H1N1 swine flu virus.

Finally, John Smedley posted on Twitter yesterday that gameplay footage from an unannounced game will be aired "between 5-6pm PST".

While SOE has traditionally developed titles exclusively for PC, bothEverQuest Next and Planetside 2 are also releasing for PlayStation 4.DC Universe Online launched on PS4 in November.

So this is intended to be free to play (I think) yet is going Early Access for $20

Sony's H1Z1 enters Steam Early Access in January • Eurogamer.net

WTF..? There is no need for this to go pay for Early Access. This isn't an indie struggling to get a game started with limited funds, this is f****** Sony! By all means offer a free or invitational pre-release alpha/beta as was for Planetside 2 but $20 to test your game for you when you're more than capable of funding a game's development... FU!

And why are all these zombie survival MMO in development hell? I had high hopes for this with Sony's financial backings behind it and the proven Planetside 2 engine but this feels really wrong.

It will just be yet another boring zombie running simulator :)

It's starting to look pretty good now, available as early access (surprise, surprise) on the 15th:
H1Z1 on Steam

I'll certainly be watching this closely, been watching some gameplay on twitch and it's looking pretty good.

My go to zombie game is still Breaking point, but, I'm hoping this will be worth playing.

Will wait to see what earlier adopters have to say before opting for early access.

I sure I read it's going to be free to play.

Does that mean it'll be a case of you've found a gun now you can either spend another two hours looking for ammo or you can just cheat and buy some via micro transactions?

I seen it was out on the 15th, is that early access and meaning pay for it?
Or is it free to play from the 15th?

I'm still a bit on the fence with this, but will keep an eye on it.

Beta is on the 15th, so you have to pay to play it.

No idea why anyone would pay to play a free to play game early, unless you are actually going to get the equivalent amount of in-game currency when the game releases.

I don't have enough time for DayZ.. Never mind another mindlessly-lethal zombie permadeath title!

It does look exactly like DayZ though. I'm surprised there's not lawsuits flying all over the place... Or why Sony just haven't saved themselves the hassle and bought the DayZ Dev.

I think it looks quite different tbh. well, as different as it can be for a zombie survival game. And with it being first person only (?) And it being from the same engine as planetside, I bet it 'feels' a lot different to play.

It seems to be a bit more around zombies compared to dayz as well and the mechanics seem quite different from some of the videos I have seen.

Will it be any good though is the big question!!

Watching a stream, looks like 100% DayZ, even the building layouts look exactly the same.

Also nice pay to win air drops, with sniper rifles and fully automatic rifles being dropped on newbies. I can see that they can be contested, but still, it seems a bit pointless. Also clearly breaks the promises that they made before it went live.

I also like the way that the AI for the zombies is not even implemented yet.

Another great example of Early Access bullsh*t.

sums it all up tbh.

Even tho it is early access, and even if they could just be testing it, do you really think they will remove it for the final release, when they know people will pay for stuff like that?

I can't believe WarZ got so much hate, and this is getting a pass. If anything I think this game is worse.

We have made the decision to allow paid for airdrops into the game with things like guns and other things....

So, pay to win then after stating numerous times they wont sell guns and ammo..

The funny thing is, that the air drops are basically broadcast to the server and anyone can go get them. So if you pay for one, there is no guarantee you get it.

I don't really understand the concept, it is a pay to win package that you buy but anyone can get. I mean who the hell is going to buy them? I can only see it being useful when you have an organised group and you possibly want to draw the attention of a bunch of noobs for killing.

Meanwhile new players won't bother with the micro transactions as that will just broadcast their location to everyone on the server and make them a sitting target as well piss away whatever money they spent.
