After seeing that scream 3 was going to be aired on C4 tonight I decided to break out my VHS collection & have a Scream Trilogy Orgy climaxing with the C4 airing of the finale...

I noticed one thing about all three horror films, the 'Bad Guys' are always finished off with Guns by the good guys. And when I think about it, this is very much a prominent thing with the Horror Franchise...

Hallowe'en, I Know What You Did Last Summer, Scream etc etc

I decided that either directly or indirectly, the makers of this crap are promoting a daft principle that Knives are the insane weapon of choice which only killers use to 'hunt', whereas guns are the moral and 'humane' killing devices only used by potential victims in a 'self defence only not' kind of way.

I guess the idea is that you actually have to hunt & get close to people with a knife (well you can throw them), whereas a gun is the defence against people that do that (tell that to the US army).

Anybody else noticed this in movies & have an opinion on it???

Guns seem pretty tame until you see movies like Saving Private Ryan or the sniper scene in Full Metal Jacket.. Have you by any chance seen Bowling for Columbine........ Big question, Does the death of another human in a movie have to be given a moral?

Guns in Horror movies are very ineffective, most bad guys are demonic killers who cannot be killed by anything. Jason has a lack of regard for guns and usually gets shot then pulps the kid who shot him.

It annoyed me in both Matrix films that so much emphasis is put on guns: surely in a virtual environment they could have used a little more imagination?

The swords in LOTR are pretty heroic, though.

Errr most of the Matrix is hand to hand fighting?

There are guns in it, but the gun to fight ratio is fairly low.

No you see, I was a Mod-Horror Genre fan at a very young age, so it was pre-A/V Obsessive days when I bought the movies, hence they're on VHS and not DVD.

    Hello peeps,
To be honest guns have never bothered me in the same that say war has. It might seem silly to say that but at a young age I have allways seen films as just that, films. Often watchin Dam Busters or 633 Squadron and never really understanding what it was I was seeing. All I know is the good guy allways won.......Or did He. See after gettin older and kind of tryin to understand stuff.......It all became well less understanable. God I dream for the days when I was Blissfully ignorant and it never mattered................

Hollywood loves guns 'cause they can make them in a PG rated movie, or they can be used in an 18.
To have a good sword fight, you kinda need more blood (Princess Bride is an exception) so they save stuff like that for 15 and 18 movies (probably 12a now as well).

Blade was brilliant when he killed vamps with his sword but he still used his gun more than anything 'cause it was easier and faster.

Also, as america loves guns, they want people to feel heros have guns therefore it's alright for cops to carry guns everywhere.
Could you imagine the outrage if a cop stabbed someone instead of shooting them?
