Got a wii u and games on gumtree.

Somebody contacts me and calls up. Makes an offer. But then says can they pay by bank transfer. And will arrange a courier. Or for me to drop it off at a couriers.

They live in Northern Ireland.

I have heard of PayPal scams etc but can they do with a bank transfer ?

They just need my name and address and bank details to do this.

Unlike eBay and here where you have demonstrable history and feedback to help in gauging whether to trust someone, Gumtree is primarily a face to face classifieds like Loot and should be used on that basis. Anyone who is daft enough to even consider proposing a bank transfer and courier for an item on there should be avoided at all costs.

Regarding BT though, once payment is made and confirmed, it cannot be reversed or grabbed back :), but even so, I wouldn't hand out my details to someone on there.

Agreed.

They may be able to set up a direct debit with some fake documents.

Gumtree, give out personal details, bank transfer, courier, lives in Northern Ireland, hmm what could go wrong !!
