I was quite surprised at this news, but it looks like Guitar Hero III will be making its way to both PC and Mac. It will ship with a USB Gibson guitar, although keyboard/mouse will also be supported (which defeats the purpose imo).

Anyway, Frets on Fire, has been available for a long time and does a pretty good job. I wonder whether anyone will be attracted by this. Personally, this is a great game to play socially in front of a TV. I own both the PS2 and 360 versions and I'll probably buy GHIII on the 360.

Anyway, I thought I'd point it out if anyone was interested! :)

    Yes, I discovered FOF recently.
Particularly fun with the Xbox 360 X-Plorer Guitar, and the range of songs to download makes a worthwhile diversion while waiting for GHIII to come out...

Does the 360 guitar work on the PC? I had no idea!

    Indeed it does.
You need to download the Microsoft Xbox 360 Accessories
This should bring up a page that asks 4 questions:
    1: Type of product: Controllers
2: Select product: Xbox 360 Controller for windows
3: Select OS (Vista or XP)
    4: Language: English (US)

You should then download the driver software. Install that then once it's done, plug in the X-plorer into USB and check it works by looking at game controllers in Control Panel.

In FOF you need then to customise the keys so go though all the frets and pick/alt pick - which should be strum-up for pick and strum-down for alt-pick.

    Good luck!

Cheers mate. I tried FoF ages ago on the keyboard but it wasn't the true to way to play it. I'll definitely give it another go with the guitar this time!

I have just discovered this as well! Have got all GH1 & 2 songs as well as some custom packs!

Overall about 300 tracks to waste time on!

This def tides me over until I get GH3.

I might pinch my mates 360 guitar off him tonight and try this out!
Are the tracks the same layout as the GH versions?

    Same double chords, hammer-ons etc?

Not sure as I still haven't had a chance to try it. I'm video card-less at the moment so hopefully I'll get a chance to test this in the weekend - I'm sure this will run on integrated gfx... I hope!
