The Gemstar Guideplus EPG as found on the Philips DVD-R80 looks really good. The data is supplied via spare lines in the analogue TV signal, it even supports Freeview and Sky channels.

What will happen to Guideplus when analogue TV service is switched off?

Surely it will become redundant? The proposed 7 day digital EPG will perform the same function.

I wouldn't worry too much about Guideplus going too soon though - the analogue TV switch off isn't going to happen anytime soon especially as Freeview is now going to suffer "Top Up TV" which will (IMHO) only harm consumer takeup of DTV. And Guideplus medium-term future is relatively secure now Panasonic and Sony are adopting it as well.

In the UK its not only transmitted by ITV on analogue, its also transmitted by Eurosport.

On the Continent most countries receive GuidePlus+ by satelite.
