Where have you been man this is old news :lesson:

"The best"? Well, everyone knows how critical I was of this LCD but even people who do agree it's great value for money haven't call it 'the best'...

And that said, I don't understand why this point comes up so much - Microsoft will have picked a set that is reliable enough that they can source for a small price. The Samsung stuff fits that bill perfectly, I'd call it very mid-range. Just surprised at how many people assume Microsoft will want the best stuff around to use in demo pods, that's all.

Maybe the 'best' was a bit much but lets face it Microsoft are not going to launch their biggest product probably ever on inferior kit. Bit more than a coincidence that Microsoft chose the award winning samsung !!

ps Some people didn't know about this either so it may be old news but not for all.

Read somewhere that Samsung are helping with the cost of the advertising budget. Not the same really when you have to pay so MS will use your screen... :rotfl:

Ooooooold news ;)

But I have to say that Im impressed with Samsung. I may consider buying a 40" LCD if they get their tearing issues sorted out. £1440 for a HDTV ready 40" is a steal.

Not surprising really - they both get something out of it... Samsung brand gets shown to lots of eager gamers and Xbox360 gets to demonstrate its HD capabilities... win:win!!

if Microsoft are willing to be associated with the Samsung, that can only be good and a good indictment on the LCD screen!

regardless of sourcing costs/availability - quality would of been a major factor also, and the Samsung has it bucketloads! - component or VGA gameswise...

na na na, your just jealous it aint your set!

p.s Burnout revenge Ps2 component, amazing - pushes that screen real hard!!!

Apparently, Samsung have some in-game advertising in Perfect Dark Zero. Joanna Dark has a Samsung branded PDA that she uses throughout the game. I wouldn't be surprised to se the Sammy TVs in there also. I have the 40" version of this TV and I bought it based on its performance against the inferior Sony 40". It does annoy me that people slag this set off because of the price. Money was no object to me, I bought the best TV for me, it just happened to be cheaper than a lot of other sets. I think calling this a mid-range TV is a little harsh too. Maybe mid-range in price, but not definately not on performance.

I was looking at buying the Samsung but I am swaying towards the Hitachi because it has HDMI and DVI coonections along with 2 RGB scart sockets.
Because the Hitachi has HDMI and DVI it means I can connect the 360 and the new sky HD reciever when it comes out. if it only had one connection I would have to keep taking the connector out and putting the one I want to use in. I thought if you keep taking conections in and out like scart for example it can damage the connectors.

I'm still thinking if I should go for the Samsung just there is not that much difference in price between the sets I want and in magazines they have Panasonic 500, Hitachi 7200 and the loewe concept L32 as the top 3 sets. I am not biased towards any company just want the best I can afford because every few months something better comes along the set you bought which might have been the best a few months ago has now been overtaken by 3 or 4 other products.

I would assume that Mircrosoft and Samsung have a mutually beneficial agreement. When people see what the 360 can do on a HDTV it can only help shift hardware, and when people see what Samsung's HDTV looks like with high definition m,aterial it can only help stregthen brand image. Some might even buy a Samsung lcd on the basis of the pod!?

Didn#t Microsoft give out 1,000 Samsung HDTVs to journos at some conference a while back?

Actually,
I think the Xbox comes with a component cable. A vga-cable is optional, but I don't think HDMI or DVI cables will be available

I think you can get regular stereo sound through your tv speakers with this cable.
However, if you want the real thing, there's also an optical out on this connector

At the X05 show in Amsterdam, all the Xbox 360 games where playable on 32" Samsung LE-32R51B TVs. I even saw the dreaded tearing on the Project Gotham Racing 3 direct feed video that I downloaded that was taken at the show. Obviously Microsoft had TVs with the older version of the firmware because the tearing looked exactly as it did when my TV (LE-26R41BD) had the problem!

M$ must have done the deal with samsung because they are cheap, and not because of performance then.

Why not use the 360 ? It's has no fans (the 'old' xbox has), it's got 480p component output and a remote (included for free in first the months after launch).
There are even some rumours that it will upscale dvd's to 720p. Technically this should be no problem.

On my current xbox I only use the optical output. It connects to my Kenwood surround amp. And that's the way it should be !

The only thing missing is a nice shiny new HD-television. But thx to the guys on this forum that problem should be solved in time for the holidays

Yeah that must be it!! :lesson: Well here in Greece this Samsung model is available everywhere and you can find it for quite cheap.I found the 32'' model for 1370 euros but i opted to pay for the Hitachi LD32700 1980 euros and wait almost a month for it.

The Samsung model is a good set, however, and very popular (due to its price+features) but i don't think that it makes anybody jealous.Oh and the set is a bit ...ugly to  be honest...

That's a funny logic...something costs 50% more so it is therefore better :nono: :nono: :nono:
