I recieved my copy of GT3 on Saturday morning and have been playing it almost constantly since, upsetting the wife in the process .

My initial reaction is that the graphics are absolutely jaw dropping and gameplay has been improved over GT2. The cars seem to be more responsive to your commands e.g you can feel when the back end is going to slide and you can correct it before you end up pointing the wrong way which used to happen frequently in GT2 (especially with the Viper). The option to have the game in 16:9 mode is a bonus to widescreen TV owners, making 2 player (arcade mode) vertical split screen racing a usable option (it looked and played great on my Panny 32PK1 and was absolutely fantastic through my mates projector). Although the number of cars has been reduced (now around 150) all this means is that alot of the 'shopping trolleys' from GT2 have been dropped which in my opinion is no bad thing.

The only downer which I have found so far is that the opposition cars AI is still as bad as it was in GT2 i.e they all follow a predetermined 'racing' line and very rarely deviate from this even if it means they just shunt you from behind. This aside I still think it is the best racing game out there and will be providing me with hours of entertainment of the coming months.

    Cheers

    Aidan.

I am rather impressed with it, but I have to say its not as much " FUN " as Rumble Racing. It takes its self far too serious and b'cos of this you really notice what is not there, such as damage, weather and good opponent AI !

I was lucky I got it for just under £25 from Tescos but its not worth the RRP !

Perhaps I just need to get better at the thing ! I can not find a suitable starting car :(

AI's the biggest downer, but 2 player is now pretty good, in GT2 you could race the faster cars because of slowdown but now I can race my mates (there AI isn't that good either though) in 700BHP cars.

I'd be interested if anyone's found a good firewire hub so you can link them up, I know at least 4 other people who want to have a multiplayer session.

not to sure about the graphics being JAW DROPPING.its not exactly leaps an bounds better to look at than say metropolis street racer.i was a little dissapointed to tell you the truth.does any one remember buying a console just to play 1 game i certainly do but the PS2 just doesnt have that going for it.however i do think that the ISS game my mate has (not sure of exact name but its an import) is amazing.im waiting for the XBOX before i make my move

Not had a chance to go and get GT3 yet, but I know with 1&2 the first thing I did was disable the god-awful music.

What's up with the soundtrack ? Nice bit of gentle jazz in the initial screens, followed by some ingame music of feeder and Ash.

Sounds OK to me, better than the sound of the whinny naff cars you get at the start.

My brother is working on a GT3 clone for the XBox. It's the same company behind the Screamer games and EA sports Superbike. It will published by Infograms, release date September 2002!.

You get it from Vision Games?

It's been selling well down there, 90 copies first day.

I'm a Mario Cart 64 man myself, love it!

Don't own it but when it's there I'm addicted.

We ran it on our PDP at work once, great fun, with Perfect Dark as well.

i personaly don't see the big apeal with the ps2 or the other consols . i think you can't go wrong with the pc when it comes to racing games .

there is nothing better than to sit at a desk with a force feedback wheel in your hands and your face a couple of inchs away from a 20" mon runing at 1600x1200

i admit to playing Fzero on the snes at times though :D :D

i could play the pc through the pj . i do think that if you want realisme it is a bit to big . ok for some types of games . i do think when it comes to driving games somthing smaller but closer has a better fealing . more like the arcade machines .

i do think that the ps2 seems to have the same problem as the ps . where things meet they don't seem to quite conect together and there seems to be a flickering line. this used to realy bother me about my playstation . i was going to get a ps2 but i just don't like the efect at all . i have demoed it on several ocasions . i actualy think that the dreamcast looks a lot better graphicaly

Well, finally got GT3 yesterday (after a very busy week at work). Was going to post my views last night but didn't stop playing it 'til 2 AM!

Virtually faultless IMHO, only the slight absence of sensation of speed really lets it down, and then not to a great extent. Could do with fewer Japenese manufactures and more from Europe, but the current crop is to be expected bearing in mind the production team. The last 'S' licence test is a real b*tch though - I never did like Monaco.

PS2 racing-games have come of age (finally) after the slightly disappointing physics of F1 2001. Good value too at £29.99 after my £10 cheque-back from Woolworths.

I got GT3 last week, I think its a great driving game, the car handles excellent, good graphics and it's well worth the cash.
To the above comment, I prefer playing games on my projector 6ft screen in 4.3. :D :D

    Second impressions:

The music is very irritating, but can at least be turned off. I wish the same could be done for the instant race replay: BORING!!: I hope GT4 virtually ditches this feature and concentrates, as the developer has hinted, on including as many different sports (and indeed any other type of) cars as possible.

Finally the Arcade level is too easy, though I must admit I only realised towards the end that the TC and Anti-spin devices were enabled. I'm suprised you can get to all the extras with them selected though.

    GT3?
Too little, too late as far as I'm concerned.
Sure, the graphics might be a step up (but as with all PS2 titles, not the massive leap you might have originallyy expected), the AI for other cars absolutely sucks, and it really should have stuck with the original title (GT 2000) as it is little more than a PS2 spit 'n' polish job on GT2. A major gripe for me though is that every single attempt at conveying realism is undermined by the lack of dynamic damage options. Where are the deformable side panels and bonnets? It's all doable on the PS2, but yet again it doesn't feature in a Gran Tourismo title. And don't say it's the car manufacturers fault as there are several new racing games on the way with licenced vehicles and visible race damage.
This doesn't mean I hate the game, it's good fun, but it certainly shouldn't save the PS2 from the oblivion it is currently racing towards.
And I've gotta agree with a couple of the other posts on here, if I want a detailed simulation I head straight for Grand Prix 3 on my PC, and if I want multiplayer fun I dig out my old SNES (or if there's more than two of us, N64) and stick on Mario Kart.

While we're bitching about what we'd all like

I'd rather they'd dropped the rally bits all together and concentrated on keeping my beloved 60/70's muscle cars in the game.

    Can't have everything...and it's still a damned good game.

Has anybody played Red Faction yet? I saw a review on Game Over the other night and it looks awesome, but I wouldn't mind some honest opinions before I part with my hard earned.

    Army Bloke,

I had Red Faction for a coupla days and then took it back

I'm only used to my First Person Shooters moving at a steady 60fps on my PC, and I found that this game moved in Jerk-O-Vision(tm) a little bit too much for my liking; it slows to a complete crawl in certain "busy" parts.

Some people like this game a lot, but I found that the inconsistent frame rate spoiled it enormously for me - it just reminds you of the fact that it's a computer game.

If you're not as fussy as me then you may love it.

However, I know that the people who loved it all had a problem with the (again) inconsistent enemy AI.

It's a very long game by all accounts, so there's plenty of playability in there...perhaps you should rent it first?
