I am wondering if there is any advantage in connecting this HD digital box to the computer through the ethernet connection or the router? Reason is I would like to record TV programs or get the TV to watch videos. Or there has to be a reason for it being there?

You'd be better asking in the correct forum Freesat Forum at AVForums.com

AFAIK the ethernet connection on the box is for access to BBC iPlayer.
The specs here state "Ethernet support – for future iPlayer and Kangaroo use"

There are ways of recording from the receiver to a PC but, again AFAIK, not by the method you are suggesting.

Others wiser than me will, no doubt, give advice.
