Was watching The Turin Horse this morning. Not exactly a cheery little flick. Beautiful in a spartan way - but exceedingly grim. This is a film in which you are treated to a minute-long static shot of two grubby potatoes in a pan. Two gaunt weather-beaten characters then get to share the contents of that pan, one miserly potato apiece, peeling and eating them with their fingers. Yum yum :--)

Which got me thinking: what is the most depressingly grim film on blu ray?

    Cheers :--)

It's a fantastic film but, for grimmness, it can't hold a candle to Hunger, which is a grueling film but an brilliant one. There's a long, almost static shot of urine being swept up from a hallway which lasts for many, many minutes. That gives the potato scene a run for its money.

Also, a close second but I might reconsider if I ever have the stomach to watch it again, Noe's Enter The Void.

..and don't forget Faces of Death is on blu. That's about as low down dirty as you can get.

Special mention for The Baby of Macon.

Yeah, go with those but most ill-feeling is probably The Living and the Dead http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0483719/

It's got a metal case Blu-ray release in Germany http://www.amazon.de/dp/B001NW8DJO

One of the first Blu-rays I ever bought and the first metal case I'd ever seen. Had already seen the film though so knew what I was getting.

The 'other scene' in irreversible is worse IMO than the opening one. A superb film if you can stomach the violence.

Interesting idea, poorly executed. The Woman did something similar only better and it's quite grim.

There also is An American Crime, which was based on the case of the murder of Sylvia Likens, which the Ketchum novel was inspired by.

I thought the OP meant good grim films...

If it's grim in the sense just crap we'll need to borrow some PirateBay servers to take the extra page load :D

Yes, a repulsive film but also grimly watchable in its realist, near-documentary style unfolding of gruesome events going on behind an ordinary "house-next-door".
