I have seen reference to these in various threads, can someone please explain to me what they are, and how can you tell whether a DVD Recorder that you buy from anyone is a grey import or not.

"To bring or carry in from an outside source, especially to bring in (goods or materials) from a foreign country for trade or sale. "

For example, if you purchase in the UK a japanese model of a Sony DVD recorder (one released in Japan but not in the UK), it would be consided a Grey Import.

If you buy from a major supplier in the UK this generally is not an issue, you get a UK product. If it has a model number not available in the UK, or the documentation and regristration materials are from another country, that would be a clue.
