I have heard this saying before, what exactly does it mean and how can you tell if you have been sold a 'grey import' lense (canon)?

Reason I ask is I have just purchased a 400mm F5.6L from Amazon and want to be sure all is ok.

Thanks,
Ray

For Canon, a grey import would be lens from outside the EU.

Within the EU, there is nothing to stop free movement of goods, and Canon operate at an EU level so you will be fine.

EDIT: Plus Canon's 1 yr lens warranty is worldwide. Amazon will not source outside the EU if bought from them (not marketplace) and from one of their EU sites.
