I have a Pioneer pdp 435. When I watch tv in 4:3 I have a grey vertical bar each side of the picture. Does anyone know how I can darken them so they are black?

Probably an easy solution but I'm not that bright.

OK, this option is avalable so as to help against screen burn.

In the set up menu of the tv /user settings/ picture setting ect. there should be an option that says side bar and then an option to make it dark or bright.

There is a setting to have either fixed or auto side bar settings, but no adjustment for the fixed setting. (that I can see)

Strange. You can adjust them with no problem on my Viera plasma. I would have thought you could do the same with yours. Hopefully some one else with this make will reply later.

Can I ask, have you checked the manual that came with the TV to see if you can do anything about it?
