Thanks to you all that commented on the Green Mile a while back.
Just watched it (finally) on Sunday.
    It was absolutely blubber-tastic!
    Cheers. [IMG]

I totally agree - watched this with the missus and a friend a couple of weeks back and it has to be one of the best films I have seen in ages - How does Tom Hanks always land on his feet - ba**ard!

Everybody said that this was a great movie, so was I the only one to be disappointed by it?

It just seemed so pedestrian and predictable.

All the guards and prisoners on death row are just sooo damned nice(!) oh, except for (dramatic music) "Mr evil guard" and the "nasty prisoner" with the secret everyone's already guessed without the need for THREE hours, both of whom are of course disliked by the rest of the jolly nice chaps on death row. Jeebus!

I don't mind a bit of whimsy in films but this movie danced the line between a magical suspension of disbelief and just plain sillyness with all the grace of a drunk elephant!

Maybe I was expecting too much (or rather, something else) after the shawshank redemption. Or maybe it's just a build up of continually watching Tom Hanks playing the nice guy worthy hero in an attempt to get another oscar that it couldn't recover from...

Anyway, just an alternative view on which I seeem to be very much in the minority.

You just know it was an in joke when Tom Hanks had that little 'wee' that was such a relief, made every grown man (and lady)suddenly want the toilet. [IMG] [IMG] [IMG]

You have agreement. I too was very disappointed with it. I put it down to expecting too much after hearing so many people praise it. Plus Shawshank was superb and I was expecting the same. But Green Mile was not in the same class. I found the story silly. I did not know how it finished before I seen it, but the 'supernatural' ingredient was a bit too much 'Touched By An Angel'esque.

As a final thought, I am getting sick of Tom Hanks, the Hollywood favourite. Do you not agree that its a disgrace that he has 4 or 5 Oscars and De Niro and Eastwood have 1 each?

I'm with Watto and SOK. It wasn't a *bad* film, and there were some good performances, but it was very slow and dragged on for sooooooo long!

I'm sure they could easily have lost an hour from it.

    Superb!

Tom Hanks haters of the world unite!
You have nothing to lose but mediocre performances of an overly-worthy nature!

(on the downside it would probably mean more work for Tim Robbins!)

As for the Oscars, how many does Hanks have now? Three? More? Did he win best actor the year Robin Williams won best supporting actor? (shudder) What a year!

    2001 Oscar's predictions:
Best Actor- Tom Hanks (The Dull Worthy Man)
Best Actress- Robin Williams (Mrs Doubtfire II)
Best Film- Return of The Cable Guy (The Farrelly Brothers)

Hanks, you'll always be the man with one red shoe, do you hear me Hanks?!!... (!)
