Thank you for your e-mail.

The situation with PAL Progressive is “progressing” slowly but surely.
There is now a tentative agreement on this with the DVD Forum and Macrovision. Although they will not officially sanction “625P”, neither will they prevent it’s implementation provided Macrovision copy
protection is in place.

We have been in contact with our Head Office and Chief DVD Engineer and it is now a question of Denon Japan providing confirmation of their policy for existing models. At this time, we are awaiting further
feedback from Japan.

As to the Chroma Upsampling error, we currently have a firmware upgrade for this which we are field-testing for the UK models DVD-A1 and DVD-3800. It seems at the moment that the error has been dealt with fully just for the USA NTSC-only models. We are expecting further feedback from Japan regarding the situation for PAL players in Europe.

The situation on both of the above issues is far more complicated in Europe and, in particular, the UK more so than the USA. In addition to the differences in the players (PAL, RGB output), UK Dealers are sourcing unofficial firmware fixes for region coding that can also have an effect on the above issues. As a Licensed DVD manufacturer, we cannot get directly involved in these matters but are monitoring the situation as much as possible.

Do keep in contact with your approved Denon dealer for updates. We will also keep your details on file for as soon as we have further information.
