Hi Currently have an Abit Geforce FX5800 card in my machine. It's getting on a bit although it's not very old and I would like something newer. Seen this card a radeon X800 SE for only £152.69 at http://www.microdirect.co.uk/ProductInfo.aspx?ProductID=8007&source=PriceGuideUK Would this be a worthwhile upgrade? Am I likely to see a decent enough improvement to warrant buying a new card? Or are there better options? It has to be AGP. My PC is a P4 3ghz with 1GB ram. Thanks Greg
A silly question, but no doubt a good one, why are you thinking of changing? It does look like a good card.
Hi Greg Have you considered the nvidia card of the moment 6600GT? There seems to be a lot of threads which mention this card. I've purchased one for my HTPC, and I am very pleased with it's capablities. Graham
I can't give opinion about the X800 Se, as I have never used one. The reason I went for the 6600GT was that I needed a card capable of producing good quality video to a projector, and good performance when playing the occasional game, plus it had to be reasonably quiet. High end graphics usually mean high end fan noise. If noise is not an issue then the X800 Se is probably the better card. For more info have look at Tom's Hardware site. http://www20.graphics.tomshardware.com/graphic/index.html
Thanks for the replies. Razor, unfortunately there is about £100/£150 between the X800SE and the X800XTPE, does anyone know what the difference between the two is?
Hi, I have just posted some benchmarks of the 6600gt here you could compare it to your current card to give you an idea of improvement.
Thanks lisa. Just run 3DMark03 and get 4881, thats with a P4 3ghz, 1gb ram, Win XP SP2. So if you can get 6757 with the spec below it looks like an upgrade is due! [Shuttle (Athlon XP 2700, XPMCE SP2, 512mb DDR333, Geforce 6600GT 128mb) 3d Mark 03 score = 6757] Greg
