    Hi All,

Me and another forum member have been discussing some softpads made for the Grado and there are some available here http://www.headphone.com/products/adaptors-and-accessories/grado-earpads-soft.php

Work out to about £6. The snag the postage cost is very high about $30+ dollars. I was wandering whether anyone else would like to buy a pair and if so we could group together and buy as I think the postage covers up to 2kg weight which is a lot of those pads. PaulBoy I know you were interested if so you want to take the risk in ordering/collecting? I'll get two pairs
Anyne else? I am not aware of anyone in the UK that do these. Note this is not a powerbuy or similar as we are not getting discount etc just trying to make the purchase worthwhile and cut out the big postage cost for just a pair.

Headroom won't ship these internationally as part of their commitment to the Grado distribution agreement (it states it on the page).

Also note you need to cut a hole in them as well.

There are some Senn pads which a few Grado users recommend but they are yellow!

You can get the replacement Grado pads in the UK though of course they aren't cheap.

Are the Soft ones special as they look like the pads I got on my SR-60's

Steve - I emailed Headroom about this and it is only Grado headphones they will not ship internationally - the assured me I could order pads but like Reano says it is only worth doing if a few of us are interested as this will offset the high shipping costs ...
I believe it is the HD414 pads that can be used on Grados but as you say there are vivid yellow  which I wouldnt fancy - Paul ;)

When you say replacement pads do you mean like for like? As we are not talking like for like but 'different' pads that aren't yellow :) . As Paul says it's the Headphones that are not supposed to be shipped internationally. They don't provide any 'mods' to their Headphones.

So anyone else want to get these pads?

Aha yep look pretty much the same but at more than double the cost 'rip off the UK' strikes again

The ones which come with the higher models are called 'bowls' and giver a better/wider soundstage. The flat versions of the pads (called flats :) ) give a deeper bass.

If you have bowls a common trick is to simply reverse them as this brings the cups nearer to your ears.

However if it helps the group I'll jump in for a set as well.

Steve - I'm pretty sure the Headroom ones are the "flats" you mention (also known as "comfies") & apparently if you dont like the extra bass some people recommend you cut a hole out of the centre about the size of a 1p - if a couple more people show interest I will go ahead with the order - I'll contact all concerned before I order when I should be able to give a more accurate cost per pair ...

gwc - no probs! I will wait until after the weekend to see if there are any other takers but with you ; StevieDVD ; Reano & myself splitting the cost of p&p 4x ways makes it worth doing IMO (circa £10 for a pair)
I'm going to push the boat out & get 2x pairs (like Reano) hopefully it will be many hours listening before I need some more

Not sure if this is in the right thread, but people here seem knowledgeable about Grado headphones.

I own a pair of SR-80s and they are about two years old, recently the sound has been intermittently cutting out on the left earphone. It seems like the coil/speaker inside the earphone is stuck and works if I do the classic hit it till it works technique. Anyone know a way of sorting this particular problem out?

ucci - I'd be inclined to steer clear of the "hit it till it works" technique :nono: as there is clearly a fault that needs sorting - if you contact a UK Grado distributer like www.digitaldirectuk.com or www.hifibitz.co.uk they should be able to advise you where / if your SR80's can be repaired (?)
    Paul ;)

Usually it's a break in the cables or a bad joint that causes intermittent sound. The 'hit them till they work' engineering will probably lead eventually to the phones being in bits, then you can have a look here for some repair info http://www.headwize.com/projects/showfile.php?file=grado_prj.htm

ucci - I think Reano was saying that as you "hijacked" the thread you should join in the group buy of some "soft pads" for your Grados (which is what the thread is about) :smashin:
tony4563 - will sort the final arrangements this weekend & PM everyone before I lash my cash - Paul ;)

Adfinni - Just got the "flat / comfy" pads (see below)
No need for "natural oils" to soften these babies up :D
I think they are made from discarded angel wing feathers :rotfl:
    Highly recommended ... Paul ;)

    Paul,

Paypal sent with my details etc

You may want to checkout whether to make a hole in the pads as most seem to do over at head-fi with these.
