Hi all, I noticed a thread along these lines a while back but all chat regarding buying/owning the older Sony KP44 PS2 now seems to have died down so apologies if this thread is going to retread old ground.

Basically, Robert Whyte Ltd now have the "graded" KP44 PS2 up on their webby for £999 (I think it was previously £1099).

I could do with some feedback from people who have gone for these graded sets from there (newbeetle and co??), especially if they've "lived" with the sets for a while. I'm thinking of going for one but the GRADED tag is putting me right off. What does it actually mean and are they covered by an official warranty?

Would be interesting if existing PS2 owners could throw in their tuppence worth too, just to help me decide :)

Thanks in advance for any help people can give - is "GRADED" really a dirty word??

I too had the same decision, but decided not to go for the graded. Not sure why,i personally just didnt feel comfortable, and plus I got same model brand new for slightly over 1300. I'm very happy with the set, initially i thought oneB scart was a downer, but thankfully it wasnt. I got my PS2, DVD and Sky conneted. Picture is beautiful, as is the set design itself. Definitely go for this TV, but as for graded or not, i have no idea

    Graded?

My father has just bought a 'graded' Sony rear projection via Robert Whyte. It is scratched, scuffed, grazed & generally looks dull.

I did tell him not to bother.

    Thanks guys.

That's the sort of story that makes me think twice - anyone care to add anything else?

What are your rights with graded goods?

For example, if the mirror is scratched, slight CRT burn, etc?

Purchased the very same from RW a few weeks back.
No problems to report whatsoever (apart from the ones i caused myself:blush: )
TV arrived in perfect condition. No visible scuffs, scrapes, marks or scratches. Full 12 month Sony guarantee.
Picture quality is fantastic. Although a few people have reported problems regarding poor service from RW i could not have found them to be more helpful. Although it has to be said that a company usually shows it true colours when dealing with customer complaints etc.
Now that this TV is under £1000 i would not hesitate to recommend.

My brother bought one form RW, it had marks on the screen (inside, not out) RW exchanged it for another(they said they'd check it first). This one was dirty, had awful convergence problems & a whopping great 2.5 inch black mark on the inside of the screen :( when we rang they claimed they had checked it & everthing was fine:mad: they wouldn't give us another set, only a refund (which we are still waiting on). If you get a good'un straight out then your fine, otherwise be prepared to be treated as a 'finnicky customer'.

If it helps - the KP44 is superb especially with a quality digital signal.

It is also has one of the best looking cabinets within the RPTV field (imho of course)

For peace of mind I would probably purchase via comet, once you take the delivered price into consideration, the additional cost is relatively alot smaller.

I personally will never buy anything from Comet again. Dixons & Currys have much better CS, although still not perfect.

I would not buy a graded set either.
