I sort off lost interest after season 4, ep 3....
Just never liked the actor that played Master Bruce.
Sean Pertwee as Alfred was the only highlight.

      :D

Another one to add to the long list of things I won't get the time to see :)

You haven't missed anything, even my 13 year old *batman* obsessed son gave up after a few episodes....
It's sort of a running joke in the household.
*You finished Gotham yet? No dad* :D

This series got better as it went, and I loved the fact it really embraced its wacky, comicky origins. Something that is often shyed away from so as not to look "silly".

It had it all really; gay/bi couples, unrequited love, lost love/people, fights aplenty with friends/enemies/frenemies and serious cruelty at both emotional and physical levels all wrapped up in hope for a better tomorrow and just like the song...tomorrow was never fully realized in the cruel love for the metropolis that was Gotham and its inhabitants.
The show got away with a lot for it's rating and time slot that hid under the comic-like Wile E. Coyote banner, in which the dark side of humour and slapstick nature of the whack-a-mole characters suffered some severe violence. The body count, mutilations and burning's etc. over its run must be high and all under the forgiving banner of a superhero show.
But it was so much more than this, with a real drive for character stories in which it wasn't scared to explore the depth of emotion behind everything from love and cruelty to sheer emotionless psychotic indifference.
Just like the much oft quoted line, the Devil gets best the ones and it is the criminal fraternities that are most memorable here in speech and deed.
Cheers for the appropriately worthily weighted review for a worthwhile show, Cas - try saying that fast, Jonathan Ross.

Well, I think he did. I get why you kid didn't like it. It's not for kids anyway. To complicated since it's character driven show. And characters are brilliant in this. The only reason I gave it a shot in the first place was because of Bruno Heller and how he handled characters in Mentalist.
I get that not everyone will like it, my wife didn't, but for what it is, this is really great show that gets better is it goes forward. I was quite meh during 1st season. And one of those rare ones that ended with some sense in it and not just with episodes to reach 100 and syndication.

Now let see if he can do it again with Pennyworth.

      Thanks for the review Cas,

I actually started watching this last night as black sails is not one my partner wants to watch!

Off to a good start after the first 3 episodes, I think the only character i am not keen on is Barbara. Far too OTT!

I do have to give credit to them for the PQ though, I find it hard to believe its not 4K HDR :)

I think been one of the best thought out comic interpretations to a tv series also it been mainly about Gordon a non headlining character in comics. Just a shame the series got screwed around by the broadcasters on terrestrial missing season 3 and then squirreled away E4

Thanks Cas maybe the conclusion of this has got my interest back. I stuck with this until season 3 i gave up on it about year ago. I could not handle it any more it had some terrible writing and a horrible script i might just finish it off now that it has an end, the only positive is the picture quality

This is our favourite series with my son...we learned to love the characters, all of them and they are a class act...
They also play nicely with shadows and atmosphere...
I am literally praying for them to do a follow up..like batman early years as it is just a shame to stop now...
We could see batman mature slowly while keeping focus on the others... 2-3 seasons please !!!

Just watched the final episode on E4 and you can see there's so much potential there for a sequel series. Call it 'The Dark Knight: Gotham', keep the cast the same and move the focus from James Gordon onto Bruce Wayne/Batman, and I think they'd be onto a winner.

I mean, I can't be the only one who wants to see Penguin and the Riddler's attempts to find out Batman's identity, or a flashback to how James Gordon got Penguin locked up after he literally helped save the city.

      At the bottom:rolleyes:

This has been one of my favorite comic adaptations. Last nights was a good send of and wondered if they would pull it of using the same actors for Bruce and Selina 10 years on non of the other actors seemed to age much if at all and the way they got up Lili Simmons for the moment I thought it was Camren with just a different hair style.
That made me laugh when we last saw the backs of Penguen and The Riddler.

      8.5/10

I would love a Batman series in the vein as this series.

Bottom of what? I got lost in translation here or there is really a petition...

I just think they will be mad not to do “batman! The early years...”. Such good cast, what a waste...

Loved the way Batman was presented in the final episode, a terrifying shadow of vengeance barely glimpsed. Fantastic. Would love to see a whole series like that.

really good end to a terrific series. the way they worked some of the lore into the plot was great - Penguin's monocle etc - and I like that Batman was just a glimpsed shadow until the very end. there's been a couple of shaky episodes, but literally only a couple, the quality of this show has been excellent, the visual look and production values have been incredible.

I feel like DC's TV division have cracked the superhero genre much better than their film division. They seem to have really grasped the importance of individuality, because no two DC Shows feel the same. Gotham was like a 70s police procedural drama, whereas Arrow is a gritty modern day soap opera.

I thought the first two seasons of Arrow were superb, then it went downhill at a gathering rate of knots. by the time they had science guy and his flying balls, it was 99% rubbish. it started to claw something back when they had the Russian involvement but by then it was too late to stop the rot. virtually every cast member came back from the dead at least once so there was no threat. wish they'd kept it more of the purely highly-trained-assassin type thing instead of dumping in all the supernatural/superhero type stuff. garbage like the Flash just ruined it.

yeah, that was cool, they've done similar "subliminal" things on the DVD art similar to how they did for the Batman films, but that was about the most subtle.
