i have to find a way of "hiding" it when we have people over!

And i have to agree, i think a 50"incher just cries "look at me":thumbsdow but its 50 glorious inches of hi def cinema magic:thumbsup: (when the geusts have gone)

So the question is how do i hide it?

i once saw at a show a product that was basically a painting that hid the plasma from veiw (rolled away powered by an electric motor)

Or something like a cabinet of some sort.

Have any of you hidden your light under a bushel??

Don't let them in that room, it's a lot cheaper.

this is ridiculous - a 50" costs between £3-5k. So what? Big deal if I saw that in someone's house. Unless you were letting strangers into your house on a regular basis, I'd think you were a fool if I was a guest and you hid the tv....

i just think that a flat screen 50 incher is extremely decadent and somewhat of a show off it just screams "look at me look what a man i am"

However i also appreciate the cinema like quality of a plasma.

Not everyone needs to big themselves up with big tvs flashy cars etc etc.

    less is more!!

by the way i would never drive a convertable for the same reasons

    each to his own eh?

The painting idea is very very expensive. It's cheaper to put a 'lifting mechanism' in a cabinet, but none of this is cheap. However, unless the visitors really are as poor as church mice, I can't see what the problem is. You can buy a 50 for about £1300 these days, a crap one admittedly, but most folks don't know the difference. The lift and associated work will cost more than the plasma, the picture thingy I saw at CEDIA last yr cost over £3k, that's ridiculous. I think, and I have nearly 1000 installs of experience here, that hiding your screen has bigger 'bling' factor than simply bolting it to the wall. Footballers have plasma lifts, other good Christian folk have plasmas, you'd simply be pandering to the politics of envy, yet generating more. In short, it's all possible, but expensive and probably not worth bothering with.

I dont give a toss what people think ,
you dont buy a 50" plasma to impress people ,
trying to hide it when people are in is just stupid

It may just be me....but aren't you contradicting yourself with this statement?

What size Plasma would you consider to not be showing off? People can have the same perception for 42" as well....

If you want something a little more discreet why not get a projector?

I'd be inclined to think more people would perceive you as a show off if they were looking at your cabinet and suddenly up came a 50" screen. ;)

I had a PJ but just sold it to get on the hi def ladder:smashin:

Do you think it would stop your friends from getting a 50" plasma or a car/boat/girlfriend etc because you didn't have one...

No it wouldnt! But they are not me.

if we based our own life desicions on what we thought other people would do in similar circumstances then we would live in a very sad society......uh come to think of it we already do;)

I just dont like to be flash........I dont understand what the big deal is:)

Having a plasma is no longer flash, having one in a lift is nearly ultimate bling. Think it through. I've got 2 plasmas and nobody's told me I'm flash, but I bet they'd comment if I installed a lift.

I don't think you can call any plasma, be it 42" or 50" decadent, I mean, what are you gonna get instead, a 32" CRT, your gonna have trouble getting a 14" CRT in 6 months time.

what you could do is wait until they are sat down, turn off the plasma and then, via remote control, lower a 150" screen for your projector to show your holiday pics on.

Still not showing off in my book but getting across the message - in my house - respect my authoritay, as Cartman rightly states.

just had to comment really. GET ONE NOW !

I always thought that a big screen was nice to use it for what it was meant to be used for - watching tv etc

Anyone that sees it as some kind of extention of their manhood has some serious problems to attend to.

Sod what your friends think - if they're that shallow as to think your'e being flash, then i'd bee inclined to get some real friends instead!
