Just to let you know that my Nikon D40 has grown up to a Nikon D40X.

I will get some photos posted soon..

    But first impressions...

    1. Appearance is identical to the D40
    2. The dial buttons is much more soild
    3. The quality of the photos is much better (10.2Mp rather than 6MP)
    4. ISO now starts from 100 whereas the D40 it started at 200
    5. New shutter mec allows a continuous frame rate to be increased to 3fps (frames per second) compared to the D40's 2.5fps

    It's a rocky road Sweetgirl - before you know it, you'll have a D200, or maybe a D300

Still, glad to see you're investing money in this game.

I have to confess, that was my first thought as well. I think Sweetgirl likes a very small/light camera though.

Congrats on the upgrade  I'm half expecting to hear that you've bought a 17-55 2.8 next

Surely the next jump would be a D80/200 from the D40?

I find the images from the D40 to be very slightly sharper than the D40x but barely noticable.

I was going to buy the D40x but decided to save the £150 difference for a better lens.

    Enjoy your new camera.

TBH i didnt pay much more for the Nikon D40X on top of the D40 and have got lifetime warranty on it.

And yes i do have little hands so like little cameras ;)

How did you guess i was considering buying that lens next

The 17-55/2.8 Nikkor? On a D40? That's one hefty lens and it's worth trying it to feel the balance.

The 18-70mm AF-S is a much cheaper alternative, and get the 30/1.4 Sigma for low light work - just a thought.

    I was only joking :rotfl:

You're right though, on a D40x, the Sigma 30 1.4 would be very nice.

There's a long sad story behind why i changed out my beautiful D40.

Trust me it was by choice...

We were both involved in an accident this weekend, he was badly injured.

When i returned it (cos i have life time warrenty) they didnt have anymore in stock :(, so i changed out for a D40x.

Missing my partner quite a bit but life does go on:(

The 30mmVR lens is awesome and no it doesn't ever end.

With the wife factor - if she's understanding as I am :D she'll let you continue to buy as long as you are using your money and it doesnt jepordise her in any way.
