Delivery man cam at 08:15 this-morning first thing that struck me was the box had been opened when i asked about this he said they are opened to check the screen Hmmm not sure about that (Do AV-Sales do this) he made me check the screen for broken glass everything looked ok I signed for it put the scart terminal board and rca to vga lead in and powered it up put a dvd in the first thing my wife said Ohh blyme thats a much better picture than the Samsung S5H, was it ever, man the picture was amazing so so much better. Then i put Telewest digital on and again the PQ is superb so much like a crt picture in my eyes. I havent played to much with the settings just to take it out of dynamic and turned down contrast and brilliance. Any settings numbers you guys can give would be appreciated. Allso ive connected up my dvd player using a vga to rca cable how do i get sound to the screen doing it this way. This screen is a lot more than the Samsung but imho its worth every penny. One last thing I thought it came with a 2 year warranty the leaflet in the box states one year

Thanks Gizlaroc for the advice and you were right m8 i am blown away  :smashin:

Congratulations. Let us know how you get on. You asked how you got sound to it, I take it you bought the matching speakers with it, what are they like aesthetically?

To get sound from the DVD player through the panel you will need a 2 phono (left and right audio out of the DVD player) to mini jack plug (for the socket next to the VGA port).

I think all PHD8s are shipping with the 1 year warranty card (mine came with that too) but Panasonic have confirmed to others that the warranty is 2 years.

Thanks piers I'll take a trip to Comit and see if they have one.

Darren at the moment to keep costs down im using an old pair of stereo speakers until i can in a few months get some money to-gether for some sort of audio set up. I went way over budget on the screen but it was worth it and actually the sound im getting isnt to bad

Mine, from AV Sales, only had a 1 year card. How do I get to be part of the 2-year club?

how are you finding the "Buzz" from the back of the screen ? - I got a PWD8 2 weeks ago from AVsales and they say buzzing is normal - but i can hear it from my viewing distance of 10 feet !

AVSales says that sounds normal.. plasma DO buzz - but THIS loud ?? - I'm very dissapointed :-(

I would be unhappy if its that bad :(

My PWD7 is only audible if you put your ear to the panel - thats how it should be, imho :)

Telewest cable DVD and PS2 all hooked up and looking good. There is a Buzz and i can hear the fan if i put my ear up to the screen. 5ft away where i sit i can hear nothing. The screen was checked by AV-sales before leaving them thats why the box was opened so thats cool.

What setting are you other PHD8 owners using there seems quite a few to play with

My PHD8 buzzes. I was very conscious of it when I first got it but I'm getting used to it now.

I sit 8-9 feet away and it can be heard in quiet (not just silent, quiet) moments when watching.

I also find that in addition to the buzz it makes a whining noise at times. I think this is when there is a lot of bright/white areas on the screen. This is new for this screen - I was used to it on my cheap old CRT. The PQ is great and not a single dead pixel so I'm still having an internal debate about whether to ask AV to take a look at it. They've been enormously helpful with all my little foibles so far, but I don't know whether I'm just sensitive to these noises and would hear it on any PHD8, in which case swapping mine for a new one and running a risk of encountering dead pixels doesn't gain me anything.

Fontie - to help bring your thread back on topic (!) I'll try and post my settings (having run DVE) later tonight.

According to the instruction manual it is an M3 stereo jack plug that you need and I am almost certain that it is 3.5mm.

congrats fontie!

i thought i would have been feeling the same myself today after making the same decision as yourself yesterday, however.... im having a problem in convincing the mrs that 'the 436xde looks pretty' isnt a good reason to choose that over the phd8!

anychance you could post a few pics to show the mrs as i cant find anywhere in the kingston area stocking the phd8 and most the web pics are to small to show what the frame looks like (i.e colour/finish)

you never know i might get to prise the credit card from her grip!!

cheers

This pic doesn't do it justice either - ignore the on-screen bits, flash was to try and show the bezel!
