I have had my eye on two for a while now - but as this'll be my first I was hoping for some advice.

Optoma HD131Xe or Epson EH-TW5200 are the front runners. Both appear to be 1080p and 3D but without a side by side comparison (nowhere nearby that has them) I am a little lost.

Does anyone have experience of either, or in the £600-£800 region is there another I should be looking at?

    Thanks in advance.

Those 2 and the BenQ 1070/1080 are the ones but you need to check if you see Rainbows.

What screen and throw dimensions are you working with, I would have gone for one listed above but my throw distance is too big.

+1 on the comment above re rainbows, I see them occasionally but they don't bother me, you need to take your family along too.

I am in a similar position with a similar budget and the projector I have been most impressed with so far is the Epson EH-TW3200, I would say it is definitely worth a demo if you don't want 3D capability.

    i would go with HD131xe/hd25e or W1070..
W1070 faster wheel(less rainbow) better colours out of the box and lens shift(small movement)
HD131xe/hd25e better blacks but some say more image noise and some focus problems

I would go for the Infocus IN8606HD. Cracking little projector for £645 with some cash left over for DVD's
Good zoom capability, bit of light spill and not too noisy. As always personal choice so a demo is best.

I think the problem with the IN8606HD is that it really suffers from the rainbow effect - that may just be because I am rather sensitive to it though. Definitively do a demo before you part with any money!
