I have sky+ and multiroomm. I phoned sky looking to cancel multiroom. Rep asked whether looking to cancel sky+ - i said yes as i had been looking to go to telewest as they had some great offers. Rep offered me 25% on sky subscription - bringing it down to £33 from £42.50. This was a good deal so i agreed. sky+ with all movies and sports for as a further year for £33 -cannot really complain with that

I assume however that you have had this more than a year though, I've only had Sky+ for about 6 months so I dont think Ive gto a leg to stand on when it comes to cancelling it just yet.

Could do with saving some money as well!

Yep had it exactly for one year. Phoned them up and said that was looking to cancel. rep asked why I said because telewes6t are doing better deal. Rep offered 25% discount for the year if i sign up for another 12 months. You should be able to get a deal in 6 months time

That's new, I thought SKY abandoned paying a year in advance years ago.
Are you sure it's a fixed term or was the offer for a 12 month discount which you could opt out of at anytime?

sorry if i did not make it clear - basically i agreed to be with sky for further 12 months. In return my subscription per month for the next 12 months will be £33 instead of £42.

I too called them last night pretending to want to cancel as I was going to use NTL (in the hope of them dropping their rather expensive prices). A lady simply told me to call back on the 23rd March when my 11 months is up with sky+. This way, I can give 1 months notice and not be charged any cancellation fee.

No mention of dropping my package (if you pardon the expression).

I am not sure if I would get the same response if I did call in a weeks time. The problem - what do you say if they do in fact say "ok - your sky has now been cancelled". I only want them to drop the price.

I suppose they get lots of people call up trying it on though.

At the end of the day the retention department have a budget which they can not exceed. The individual CS staff will offer deals when they can and I suspect they are overseen by supervisors to make sure they don't give deals to friends and families (which has happended).
There always comes a time when it's more expensive to keep a customer then to let them go:)

The odds are that if you do cancel for whatever reason then you will get a call back at a later date with an offer even if you have turned down or not offered a deal when you called.
