Google Shows Off Nexus 'S' Smartphone

To accompany the launch of Android 2.3 (aka Gingerbread), their own popular Operating System, Google has also unveiled their latest attempt to crack the smartphone market in the Nexus S.

It's a rather gorgeous looking phone boasting a 4 inch Super AMOLED screen much like Samsung's Galaxy. Performance wise it promises to leave its predecessor, simply known as the Nexus, for dead boosting, in particluar, the gaming potential with its 1-Ghz Hummingbird processor, 16 GB of internal storage, and a battery rated for 6.7 hours of talk time.

Sales of the Nexus were a disappointment and Google will be hoping for more interest this time around. One thing is for sure, they wont give it up without a fight, if past experiences are any indication. Whether there's room in the market remains to be seen.

The Nexus S wil be available, in the UK, from Carphone Warehouse and soon from Best Buy both in non-contract and contracted form. US sales are exclusively tied in to Best Buy, which leads us to wonder if this more of a 'tester' product rather than a serious attempt to corner the market.
