Hmmmmm. The link you sent looks written in the type of manner that tabloids like the Sun and NOTW use.

"when one of the people who spends their every waking hour combing Street View for photos of hookers, drugs deals going down, shootings and sunbathing ladies found this - the moment the Street View car flattened a deer."

It does appear that the incident happened, but what's the inference? That the person callously ignored it? Ran over the animal deliberately? That Google ignored it?

Without knowing more of the facts, I'd certainly reserve judement.

Streetview is just one part of Google Maps, and recently added in comparison to the actual map information.

You could be being very sarcastic, and if so well done, but if not sorry mate, but i find your reaction as sensationalist as that article.

Well, it is late and I didn't put too much thought when writing it. But here, help yourself to the original posting on someone's blog, with a couple of updates from Google themselves, which contains facts, that's what you wanted, wasn't it?

    Here's what Google said:
Gathering the imagery for Street View requires quite a bit of driving; as such, we take safety very seriously. Unfortunately, accidents do happen — as some people have noticed, one of our Street View cars hit a deer while driving on a rural road in upstate New York. Due to several user requests using the “Report a concern” tool, these images are no longer available in Street View.

The driver was understandably upset, and promptly stopped to alert the local police and the Street View team at Google. The deer was able to move and had left the area by the time the police arrived. The police explained to our driver that, sadly, this was not an uncommon occurrence in the region — the New York State Department of Transportation estimates that 60,000-70,000 deer collisions happen per year in New York alone — and no police report needed to be filed.

So it's OK, it walked away safely.

Hundreds of deer are run over every year in the UK, several people are also killed in the process as they just run across the open roads. Currently there is no way of controlling their population as they no longer have a natural predictor. There are like 2 million in the UK, we're having to shoot them to control the numbers.
    Venison anyone?

I very nearly ran over one the other night.

Luckily for both the dear and me, there was nothing coming in the opposite direction and I was able to swerve to the other side of the road to avoid it. It gave me such a fright that a nerve in my knee started twitching like crazy for a good few minutes after .

    Warning...Bad joke alert....

What do you call a dear with only 1 eye???

    No idea. :D

How does this make Google evil? Bit extreme to attach the label to a driver accidentally hitting an animal let alone anybody else

I know, I am sorry about the unfortunate title, it's just that Tech Digest took it a bit too far and mention that the Deer was shockingly slaughtered, of course this was not the case, I didn't mean it in a spiteful way.

I'm sorry if I offended anyone, but I myself was concerned for the Deer, and thankfully it was not seriously harmed.
