 Having problems with playing some of my legit DVD collection on the HTPC due to the farce of region codes. Currently using POWERDVD that came in the package. Am I correct in thinking that VLC should overcome this problem? Any help apreciated Mick

DVD Genie can change the region codes for PowerDVD.

You need a small utility called DVD Region Free, this stops the region change calls to your DVD drive so you can change regions as much as you like... in any player.

Thanks guys for quick reply, looks like I will have to download DVD for free then, I'm not sure if I'm right but it looks like both my CD/DVD Rom drive & the POWERDVD program have built in max 5 region changes, this really is a joke when most standalone DVD players/recorders are either region free or so easily hackable. Why are the PC users having this hassle??

DVD Region Free is a good work around, but most DVD drives in PC's need to be firmware hacked to be region free.

Just use DVD Region Free.. it handles it all in the background and you never use any of the region changes in the player/drive. I have not bothered with firmware hacks for years... it just works :)
