hello,

with all the recent price cuts on a canon 300d I was thinking about upgrading my eos 300 35mm to digital.

Quick questions:would the 300d be a worthwhile upgrade or should i hold out for a nikon d70?

And where is a good camera place for exchanging equipment against the new camera?

Thanks a lot,

Phil

Park Cameras in Haywards Heath will give you a fair trade-in price, and has decent prices, especially if you quote their web offers. As to whether you should stick with Canon or change to Nikon, that probably depends on what Canon lenses you already have :)

You mentioned "holding out" for a D70, so I assume there's some budget constraints(just like the rest of us)? I'd think about the following:
(1) What do you want to use the camera for? The 300D is very entry level and ageing, by digital standards. That could influence choice, and is probably why there are such good deals around.
(2) There's no real difference between the Canon and Nikon systems for most people. Pros and specialists will disagree, but they're qualified to decide for themselves.
(3) Do you have any significant investment in lenses? Are they compatible with the 300D? Are you satisfied with their performance? If the answers are yes, I'd stick to Canon. If, not, it's an open question.
(4) Have you used the D70? I thought I wanted one, based on the reviews, but decided against it after handling the camera a few times. Just couldn't see myself coping with the tiny/dark viewfinder and hopeless MF - I like MF for a lot of applications - and some people reckon the AF isn't so hot either. I like Nikon, and I've got Nikon glass, so I'll stick with the system but wait until they offer something better that I can afford - which rules out a D2H or D2X. Maybe a D70 or D100 upgrade?
