i want to get surround sound and was wondering if this would be a good set up
    Marantz SR4400 Black (AV Receiver)
    Mission M7C1I Black (Single Centre)
    Gale 3060 BIPOLAR (Rears)
Aural Envelope ORBIT 851 Black (Subwoofer)
    all these for about £360

already have mission 704 for fronts

are these any good or is there any thing better for around same price

    thanks

The speakers setup is a good starter and the amp is a good base unit.

Also worth considering from other sources are
    Yamaha 450

    Sony 675

    Denon 1705

You could also try giving Miller brothers a phone call and asking if they have any Sony db2000's Left as they are part of the QS range and for the price Miller had it it is a bargain (usually £400). :D

I havent heard of the sub but would recommend saving more money and buying a Known brand sub in the £150-£300 region as it will make a significant difference to any cheap boom box .

Consider Ruark vita 50 I think there are a few owners on this forum and are very happy with them or there bigger brother theVita 100 . Superb value for money.

The arrangement you suggest should sound great for the money. Although Dfours suggestions are good they do practically double your outlay with some of those options.

I would definitely agree with him WRT your choice of sub, it's definitely worth saving up longer and follow his advice. The Velodyne CHT power buy on these forums would also be a good option. :)

Not quite Hes looking at paying £169:95 for the sr4400 at Richersounds and my amp suggestions are arround that price. Its only the sub option that blows his budget away but will amke soooo much difference.

Thx Eviljohn2 I always forget about the velo special offer.

What are your main interests with the amp Randy? Music or movies?
I would reaslly suggest you look at the other amps I suggested even though Richersounds dont sell them and you would have to go mail order they are all newer models with more power or flexability and better features than the old marantz.

In the end its your choise and money.

I think the Marantz is an excellent choice, my best mate has one with my old Mission 701 speakers and it sounds and it sounds ace. :smashin:

There's certainly no harm in checking out the other offerings that are available though. :)

also when you go into richer sounds make sure you know EXACTLY what you want and dont let them change your mind (unless they have good quality ex demo stuff), especially dont let them offload a sony str-de697 on you, i made that mistake!

phoned my local richersounds earlier the only marantz sr4400 they had was open baoxed and didnt know if exdemo or return, so ill cross that off list for now same for the mission centre  have noticed that this is discontinued and v few ppl have it in stock.
the only thing they had was 1 last gale 3060
so have to have a rethink i dont mind spending a bit more cash if it makes a big difference and means i wont wanna upgrade in 6 months
as far as use goes itll be a mix of movies, music and console

The Marantz 4400 has been replaced by the 4500 which shouldn't be too hard to find. :)

Keep checking your local richers as they are always getting stock in on a weekly basis or you could ring their stock line to make a request you may get lucky. I have a similar setup (Marantz 4300 with Mission M7C1i/M71i's) and find they match up very well and sound good considering the low price.

i can only advise you against it. if you were thinking of getting it from RS, empire have it for £150, for that it might be worth it, but if your budget is around £200 i advise you to get the azur 540r, its in a different league to the sony.

Andycdubya, for a good quality bargain you must go second hand. The quality and price of the amps available in the market is second to none - look out for the Denon 180x series along with the entry level Marantz and Yamaha offerings. :)

As you are looking at Richersounds, also have a look at the Cambridge Audio Azur 540R, which is selling at 250 pounds. It is worth every penny!
