Good new car's under 7k with scrappage

I'm after a new motor and have been thinking about getting a new one with the scrappage scheme as we have a 1998 escort that's eligible.

I have a budget of 7k after the scrappage scheme is applied.

So far the Suzuki Swift 1.3 GL is my current favourite at £6750, as they have decent reviews, decent build quality and a Japanese motor. It also has the best performance of all the cars in the price range, 0-60 in 10.6 mph and 91 BHP. There's also a 0% finance deal available on it as well.

Any other suggestions? I've looked at the Mazda2 but that lags behind on performance being 3 seconds slower to 60mph and is £500 more.

Hyundai i20?
The £2k scrappage incentive is topped up with further discounting across the whole of the supermini range. Cheapest is the three-door Classic 1.2 at £5,995 with another £200 off, while the five-door starts at £6,245. Bigger savings are to be had on the Comfort spec with its 15in alloys and USB stereo connection. Another £700 from Hyundai drops the 1.2 to £6,745, with the 1.4 now at £6,995 after scrappage. Most generous is the extra £1,350 off the top-spec 1.4 diesel, now costing £8,495 with the scrappage discount.
5year transferable unlimited mileage warranty too should keep ownership costs down

Decent guide here: Car scrappage scheme | Auto Express

Alfa Mito for £146 a month seems massive bargain! (on PCP)
The headline price of £8,995 for the base model 1.4 Turismo is a real tempter with the £2,000 scrappage taken into account. It gets harder to resist still with a zero-deposit PCP finance deal. Taken over four years, the monthly payments are just £146.

Or Fiat Grande Punto 1.4 Active
Scrappage scheme removes £2,000 and Fiat's deal saves a further £955, taking the list price to £6,695. A four-year finance deal cuts payments to £119 a month.

A mate is trading in his 10 year old 156 for one of these as we speak.
Using the deal you speak of.:smashin:
Stocks appear to be a problem though, they're selling well.
It olnly comes with steel wheels too, which don't befit an Alfa.
Alloys are £600.
Which, over the 4 year PCP deal, works out at an extra £12.50 a month.

I kind find a 4 year 0% deal on the Alfa website, all they have is a 3 year one with 9.5% APR and a mileage limit.

It's a 4 year deal @ 9.5% APR.
47 payments of £146.50.
Max mileage of 10000 miles a year, on that example.
You can alter that mileage, with the monthly figure being adjusted accordingly.
Agreed value of £4625 at the end of the deal.
If you want to keep it, stump up.
If you want to sell, try and get more than the £4625 and keep the rest.
If you don't want it, or can't sell it for more than £4625, hand it back.

No-one mentioned a zero percent deal, not with scrappage.

Yeah when i was at the alfa dealer with my mate buying the GT they said Mito were flying out of the door!

Aftermarket wheels and tyres are about £350ish http://www.dreamalloys.co.uk/product_detail1.php?product=66 for a set of 4 and you keep the steelies and tyres (free locking nuts too!)

Deal on the Mito is Zero deposit and £146 a month* Conditions apply PCP agreeed value

Deal on Swift is 0% over 2 years with 30% deposit (£255 ish a month) you own the car (1.3 GL) or 5.9% on PCP £125 a month 6k miles

Sorry, I misread the deal on the Auto Express website, was zero deposit not 0% finance

It doesn't really matter anyway as I plan to buy with cash but if there was a 0% finance deal I may consider it.

Off to read up on the Fabia and Corsa now to see how they compare with the Swift, you have to love internet at work

If you're looking at the Fabia and Swift, you might as well look at the Clio.
The 1.2 'Extreme' is being offered for £6495.00, with scrappage.
The Clio is still one of the most highly regarded superminis.
'What Car' give it 4 stars out of 5, which is the same as the Corsa and Fabia.

Grande Punto is based on Corsa IIRC so worth comparing side by side.

The Mito is £9k with scrappage so out of budget and unlikely to get any real discounts. But it has to be worth a look? No?

PS i think i just found the missus next car Alfa MiTo Cabriolet | Auto Express News | News | Auto Express

We've got a Grande Punto in the fleet.
It's used as a pool car, basically covering for car shortages elsewhere in the fleet.
It's only £100 a month to lease.
It's an ok little thing, considering it takes dogs' abuse.
If all 1.2 petrols are as slow as it is though, I feel sorry for the OP.

Had a quick read on the fabia, probably built like a tank but too slow for me, as is the 6.5k clio however if I could find a deal on the 1.2 TCE engined clio I maybe interested but it's too pricey at present.

Also looked at the Grand Punto on offer, but it's only the 8v engined one I think so it's slow. Looked at the panda as well the only one I'd consider is the 100hp one but it's out of budget.

Having a look at the Arnold Clark website.
You can get a 1.25 16v Fiesta for £7995.00
That's a cracking engine.
In fact, I remember when Ford first released it.
They specifically advertised it was quicker to 60mph than the 8v Golf Gti.:D
Under 10 seconds 0-60mph.
I had an 8v Golf Gti at the time, so it was a bit embarrassing.:(
I did hire a 1.25 16v Fiesta once, and was quite shocked at how lively it was.

The Fiesta is the best supermini around just now.
5 out of 5 stars in 'What Car' and every other mag agrees.

C4 for same money...

Still think i would rather a Mito the predicted value of the mito is huge compared to anything else so unless your planning on keeping this one for 10 years its a good way to secure capital (as mush as you can buying a new car) If they had offered an auto box i think my mum might have gone for Mito but as they don't she went mini.

No offence, but at under £7k you're not going to get the manufacturers 'best' engines.

That's very true but there are limits and I want something that you can have some fun in and some performance is useful when overtaking which is why I looked at the Swift.

Just looking at the fiesta you mentioned I cannot tell which engine it is for £7999, Parkers lists two 1.25 16v engines, 59BHP and 80BHP. The new fiesta must be heavier though (although I'm sure I read its lighter) as none of the 1.25 engines are anywhere near a 10 second 0-60.

True there is nothing i can find for £7k new with better 0-62 times (well with 4 wheels and a roof that is!)

But i dont think it would ever class as "quick"

I saw a tidy looking Swift last night, actually.
Red, with black stripes running over the bonnet/roof, and nice alloys.
I dare say that particular model is outwith your budget, but a smart looking motor nonetheless.

May have been the 1.6 sport which is direct competition to the Mini and price is much closer to the mini cooper.
