Simple question. Show season fast approaching, I need excellent live music DVD's I can use (ie no nudity, Marylin Manson concerts etc). The picture is irrelevant but they must sound good. All suggestions except Norah Jones and Katie Melua are welcome.
    Cheers

All of the above plus :

Rush - Live In Rio - for a three piece -WOW (as Tommy Vance once said) :smashin:

Various - Concert for George (Harrison) - Stunning picture quality (good sound too!)

Diana Krall - Live In Paris - Not my type of music but excellent performance

Rolling Stones - Four Flicks - Take your pick of any of the 4 discs

    Peter Gabriel - Growing Up

Thought I'd get in there pronto before some other nonsense gets mentioned. I have fair few good music DVDs but they all worship at the altar of Stop Making Sense.

Any chance of a mod making that thread a sticky, in the same was as there is a recomended albums one ?

Would be good to have a reference list sorted by artist, with details on sound format and aspect ratio.

My current fav for music dvds in The Who at the Albert Hall. Amazing picture and sound quality - and the performance is full of special guests.

mjn- I guessed as much and apologise for being a bit lazy. In my defence, I specifically need clean, non abusive titles that major on sound and are picture irrelevant.

Some really good sounding ones are:

    Peter Gabriel - Growing Up
    David Gilmour - In Concert
Roger Waters - In The Flesh
    U2 - Elevation Tour

If you're after sound quality instead of picture, have you thought about DVD-Audio?? I definitely recommend that medium for improved sound quality. Some titles I would strongly recommend on that format are:

    Porcupine Tree - In Absentia
REM - Automatic For The People
Emerson Lake & Palmer - Brain Salad Surgery
    Deep Purple - Machine Head

DVD-A is a seperate case and thankfully we're well covered for them as they are useful referances. The show is going to also use these music DVD's as they are a little more diverting to people walking past the room if you know what I mean. The picture is irrelevant because we are trying to sell the audio stuff not the plasma :).

Shhurely, some moderately exciting visuals would cause the consumer to stop to peruse and then be instantly engulfed in the the spectacular audio. For example, David Byrne in a huge suit is bound to catch anyone's eye - it's on Stop Making Sense - not sure if I've mentioned that DVD or not.

The DVDs has two 5.1 mixes if that helps.

I always use Eagles Hell Freezes Over to demo the sound on my system, specifically "Hotel California". You can hear the hum and buzz of every plucked string, and I swear you can even hear the different wood tones on all those acoustic guitars, clear as day

You have got to be kidding. This DVD features the worst sound I've heard on a music DVD. The volume goes up and down and it has some really bad overdubs where Bruce had to redo some of the vocals that weren't clear. Produced by Steve Harris (Bassist) as well who should leave well alone and since this DVD he has left the producing jobs on the albums to other people.

The newly released Page & Plant - No Quarter Unledded is superb -- picture and sound. IMHO, it's on par with The Eagles DVD.

I thought Rock In Rio was a bit messy in DD but it seemed far better in DTS.
