Hi guys was wondering if anyone could help me out. The missus has got it into her head that my yamaha/pioneer speaker combo is only suitable for a bachelor pad. So I need to find a couple of floor standers a sub and a centre that look, as she puts it "like furniture" preferably a darker wood Def not black. Budget wise well I love a bargain dont care if they aren't new or ex demo either. At the minute I'm having to make do with the sound from the TV so anything is an improvement

Thanks

A bargain for one person can be a fortune for another. Give us a roughy :)

You need to set a budget, so we can recommend brands that fall within that budget.

While Blacks speakers are all the rage today, virtually every speaker out there comes in a variety of natural wood finishes, though some of them are fake vinyl.

In the old days, my preference would have been for Walnut. Today however, my preferences run more toward Cherry and Rosewood. Medium colors with a hint of red in them.

Also while Black and Natural Wood tend to dominate over time, it is possible to get speakers in WHITE today.

Examples -

It is simply a matter of picking a color the best blends with your room.

If you have a boat load of cash laying around, you can also get premium High Gloss finishes -

Here is a Medium Oak -

Here is a Dark Walnut -

Here are other options -

Here is a light Pearl Walnut -

Rosewood -

The only color that is slightly deceptive when viewing on-line is Cherry. I have Cherry speakers and I can assure you they are NOT remotely as orange as the photos make the out. Really a very medium brown with a subtle hint of red. The Cherry, especially, are over staturated and brightened just so you can see something, but that makes them appear WAY brighter and more orange than they are. Really, Cherry is perhaps my favorite color.

So, really just about any speakers you could consider in any price range will have a range of finish options. You just need to set a working budget, and give us the dimensions of the room, and give us some sense of how the speakers will be used in the room. Plus any preferences for size, style, or appearance, and we will point you to some speakers that fit your requirements.

Without a budget this is impossible. Some beautiful looking speakers about but some are pretty expensive as well. Also what size you after...large floorstanders are something more petite?
Any colour choice but you prefer darker wood.. so something like a rosewood, rosenut, or walnut then ?

If theres one colour i cant stand, its Black Ash :thumbsdow

Looks like 1970's jumble sale quaility, apologies to anyone who has them by the way :D

Yeah I am not a fan either though I have owned black ash products in the past. I feel so ashamed

Thanks for all the responses guys. I am told I'm allowed £1000 but she really likes the look of the monitor walnut ones linked above by blue wizard. As do I so i may be able to stretch it :)

What colour are your Tannoy's? @Longy00000

I got the high gloss walnut variant . Absolutely stunning finish really beautiful.

Though can look high gloss black as well when I less light. This is pre set up while I stored them in a spare room hence no spike etc

Beasts arnt they

My MA 5.1 setup was all Walnut, ive replaced with oak front 3 (tomorrow hopefully), rears are hard to find in oak so ill have to make do with a mis matched system.

Nothing wrong with mis matched...my rears are silver kef eggs at present ! Should really be precision 6.1 but they are quite a big bookshelf speaker and I just don't have the room for them so kef remain for now. Probably end up with a wall mounted dipole jobby of some sort.
For the OP ...whichever way you go just make sure it's a proper wood veneer and not a vinyl wrap the difference is huge when up close and personal

The Monitor Audio Bronze 5 floorstanding are considerably less that £1000 -

Monitor Audio Bronze 5 - Walnut - £550/pr -

Monitor Audio Bronze 5 Walnut Floorstanding Speakers (Pair) - Monitor Audio - AudioVisual Online - Home Cinema and Hifi Specialists

If you have interest in a larger speakers, the Monitor Audio Bronze 6 are worth a look -

Monitor Audio Bronze 6 - Walnut - £699/pr -

If we are to assume, this is a 5.1 system, then the Monitor Audio Bronze Center is -

Monitor Audio Bronze Centre - Walnut - £160 each -

Monitor Audio Bronze Walnut Centre Speaker (Single) - Monitor Audio - AudioVisual Online - Home Cinema and Hifi Specialists

How much farther you want to take it, and how much of your current system you want to transpose into the new system, is not clear at this time. But the Monitor Audio Bronze FX wall mounted Surround speakers would be the next step.

Monitor Audio Bronze FX Surrounds - Walnut - £279/pr -

Monitor Audio Bronze FX Walnut Surround Speakers (Pair) - Monitor Audio - AudioVisual Online - Home Cinema and Hifi Specialists

The Monitor Audio Subwoofer in the 5.1 package is the W10 10" Subwoofer. Priced at £500. For the same £500, there are probably other better Subwoofers to consider.

Monitor Audio Bronze W10 Subwoofer - Walnut - £499 each -

Monitor Audio Bronze W10 Walnut Subwoofer - Monitor Audio - AudioVisual Online - Home Cinema and Hifi Specialists

This Sub doesn't go especially deep. I would consider the BK Electronics XLS200 (10", £315) or the XXLS400 (12", £425). Available in either Front Firing (FF) or Down Firing (DF) in a range of finishes.

Sub Woofers - Sub Bass - Subwoofer

XLS200-FF

XLS200-DF

XXLS400-FF

XXLS400-DF

Castle Acoustics used to always make the best looking hi-fi / HT speakers, with a range of finishes. They went bust a while back but have been bought by International Audi Group who have revived the brand and iconic designs.

No idea where you listen to them or buy them, however. You might be able to get a second hand pair of Severns or Harlechs - but you would need to ensure the drivers were still working.

Just had a look on their website, speakers look very nice. I prefer a premium wood finish than a metal/Leather look like the MA Platinum range.
