Good circa 150 squid DVDR

Current kit:

Samsung 32Z409T TV (supports 720p/1080i over HDMI or Component)
Sony STR-DE825 AV Amplifier
Sony DVP-S7700 DVD Player
Virgin Media Digital subscriber (hate mail to the usual address... [email protected])

The DVD player is on the way out so I'm looking at replacing it with a middle of the road DVD recorder unit. It could be a HDD unit, as long as it will read DVD-RAM and DVD-R.

All I'm really after is a unit that records and plays current stuff. I'm declaring my n00b status here when it comes to the finer arts of the forth coming TV revolution (I sound as old as my music collection...) , so I don't know what to get.

I'm currently considering:

Samsung DVD-HR753
Samsung DVD-R155

for no other reason than I'm happy with the TV (and hence Samsung) and they're available from my favourite etailer.

By all means flame/critique my system away (only the optical player component is going to be changed so it doesn't really matter anyway :) ), but what I'm after is a recomendation for a circa 150 quid recorder.

Many thanks in advance...

some samsungs have many problems so dont buy one unless you are really sure

better still , spend a bit more ( say £200 ) and get a sony 770 or 870 ( pioneer internals ) and you wont regret it

Doesn't do DVD-RAM though.

I thought the sony can read RAM disks , which is what he asked in post 1 ?

it cannot write to them , but he didnt ask for that

I stand corrected, but it does go on to say certain dvd-rams cannot be played due to 'characteristics of the recording device and authoring software' whatever that means exactly.
