I currently have a Philips MX980 surround sound system that I've had for a few years now and would like to upgrade the receiver to use with me Sky HD and PS3 and my newly purchased Samsung M87.
Is there any decent receivers or packages out there for less than £300??
    Cheers.

    Hi,

My Sony DG910 just arrived on Thursday from Amazon and i have to say it's a cracking bit of kit for the price. I have my PS3, Sky HD, upscaling dvd and my 360 all routed through it with one HDMI going to my screen. Sound quality is good enough for me, not as good as the higher end models but certainly a big difference to all in one packages.
    Here's a link http://www.amazon.co.uk/Sony-STRDG910S-Channel-Cinema-Amplifier/dp/B000OQ9VZ0/ref=pd_bbs_1/026-0836617-1730815?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1188641762&sr=1-1

I've just been reading about this one on the forums, thought it would be suggested and does sound pretty good expecially for the price. Thanks.

How about any packages that include speakers??

Receivers or packages... there's a big difference there!

Receivers wise, the Onkyo 505 or Sony SA1200ES are both available for £299.... however that obviously doesn't include speakers....

The Samsung TX35R all in one is good, multi region and quite cheap from Amazon at the moment....

The thing is I dont need a dvd player as I use my PS3. I should of made it a bit clearer that I meant a package including just a Receiver and Speakers. But thanks anyway.

No probs.... to be totally honest i don't personally think there are any new 5.1 speaker packages under £300 that are any good wahtsoever, the cheapest that i consider any good is probably the Kef 1005.2 package which can be had for about £250.. that doesn't leave much for an amp though!

I dont mind sticking with the speakers I've got for now and just upgrading my Receiver.

What are the current speakers though... if they're from an existing all in one system they may not be much cop... if you think they are then the 2 amps in my first post are worth a look.

The speakers probably aren't much cop, they came with the Philips Receiver I've currently got. But I haven't got the money to upgrade the whole thing at once.
Speakers wise I would like a set of slim floor standing speakers a bit like the ones that are part of the set you mentioned but it's got to be one thing at a time at the mo.
