Just ordered a Samsung Blu-ray player- can anyone recomend some good quality demo discs since I have read not all Blu-ray transfers have been optimum quality.

So what are the best demo movies then?

Kingdon of Heaven, Ice Age 2 and Casino Royale for me.

black hawk down .. has a stunning picture .. soooo much better than my superbit DVD release :smashin:

Can anyone tell me what "Click" is like on Blu-ray.

There is method behind my madness.

Click was shot on video, not film, which should eliminate most grain. Plus, it's a VC1 transfer.

Can anyone tell me if my theory is correct? Or is no one buying that movie?

Yes it was shot in video but it's encoded using mpeg2 not VC1. :)

"I did find that darker scenes and some of the more vibrant colors appeared a bit too alive with movement in the form of slight video noise."

Having seen the movie I've no plans on purchasing on HD.

I have Click, and its not the best demo material IMO. Its got quite a bit of grain - but thats what the master looked like (I saw a side by side demo betwen the master and the BD version).
Saw Deja Vu the other day - thats looks very good. Open Season, Black Hawk Down and The Prestige are also good discs.

Corpse Bride, Casino Royale & Planet Earth are all superb demo material imo. :)

fantastic 4 is unbelievable on blu-ray:thumbsup:

Its horrendously expensive on the street around me (£30 +) which is rediculous, will hopefully find it cheaper somewhere and buy it once Im paid this month, along with Open Season and Deja Vu when its out (I loved the film immensely)

The Wild is also a great demo disc I feel

Much cheaper via the web. Movietyme offer the F4 (Reg A) @ £13.99 or Play.com (Reg B) for £17.99.

Casino Royale and Kingdom of Heaven are the 2 best discs I have here if you're talking about Blu-Ray exclusives.About Black Hawk Down, don't you all find the transfer a bit too digital? It's not the grain(that's natural,it's a very intentional grainy movie with lots of contrast)but i did noticed some edge enhancement, digital noise and other factors that detract from that "film like"feeling experience.
So,yeah as for Blu Ray exclusives Casino Royale and Kingdom of Heaven are the best. Also really like the picture of Hellboy a lot.As for non-exclusives watch Happy Feat,World Trade Center,Sahara,Dreamgirls and etc...But you can't miss with the first two tiltles(the orange fleshtones on Casino Royale are completely intentional and mimics perfectly what i saw in the cinemas...actually it looks even better, but don't buy the American version because it's cut the most)

Watch out for POTC. I saw the trailer in the Sony showroom in Tokyo and was stunned.
It is destined to be the King Kong on Blu-ray.

i thought into the blue was quite a good disc for colours. some blacks didn't show up to well but sme of those fish were great and Jessica Alba, hubba hubba :)

If I knew what POTC was I'd quite happily look out for it. Why do people use initials for something and assume it's obvious what is intended? SCTLOT .

LOL

Pirates of the Caribbean? :)

Took me a while :)

At present it's CRANK / PRESTIGE. After 23-May it's POTC.

Kris Deering reckons Chicken Little is the best transfer yet.
Many people go for Happy Feet.

Question: If it's recorded on video, is click mastered in 1080i?

That would make sense, cheers.

Be nice if the person that posted would verify though. If everyone referred to films by their initials only, this forum would be a mess.

another vote for the prestige here as well.

breathtaking - better than it looked at the cinema.

Invincible is also very good as well

Will the player be Region A (US) or Region B (Europe) ? A lot of US titles are not released in Europe and are region locked i.e. Prestige, Crank etc

Its a pity the actual film prestige isnt particularly good (imo) - Im glad I got it on dvd but not really hd material for me at this point

Im struggling to think of Invincible - was it a disney film or something or live action (starring?)

Im no film expert by any means but I usually recognise a name if I dont actually know it.

It's a region B player if that helps (can these things be region hacked?). Came with two 'free' films: SWAT (that what it's really called (I believe stands for special weapons and tactics!!!)) & Legends Of Jazz which is rather good.
