With help off this forum [inzaman] i decided to have a go at making a fixed screen. I am not a great DIYer but the saving will hopefully allow me to save for a HCPC [for high def stuff ] I also spent a lot on a projector and funds were struggling! Anyway this was to be a temporary measure or so i thought! I simply cannot believe how well this has worked out At times i thought it was a total waste of time with roller marks doing my head in. I can hardly see any fault in screen at all now, and once its cured i think it will be even better
I am also converting a garage to house everything so you can imagine last nights switch on was a bit of a worry [just got pj this week].
I will try and add any tips i can to help anyone attempting this themselves.
I will mainly just cover the painting and finishing off as the materials for the screen are the same as other thread. There will be pics !!! and when i get a chance screenshots..couldn't be bothered last night wow factor to great
I did at lease 10 coats
2 MDF primer [more would be better i think]
2 Dulux undercoat
3 digital light undercoat
3 digital light top coat
I have found with MDF, paint seemed to like some areas more than others which caused intermitent streeking. More mdf primer might help combat this.
I used loads of smooth rollers mainly small smooth type although i also used the larger smooth rollers for finishing, i would coat screen thith small roller then go over it again with a new large roller [without paint] here are my pics if you notice i neerly "flocked" up big style. There is not a lot spare so before you cut last 2 long lengths check you have enough!
The final picture screen does luck a little patchy it was only painted 5hrs before it went up i speeded this up with a hairdryer also concentrated hairdryer on any patches i could see. I have to add i have been to many demos and saw an awful lot of screens, very expensive ones as well! and my screen is excellent in comparison and i am very fussy about picture quality
