Just ordered this from CDWOW (£10.99 with £1 off voucher).

CDWOW say that disc 1 is a hybrid SACD where as amazon / hmv etc don't mention SACD. Has anyone got this to clarify?...PJ :)

As far as I know it's one CD and one DVD-V which includes a 5.1 mix

if you read the readers review on amazon, it's seems to confirm this -

"This great album is presented in 5.1 on both discs!!!!
In Dolby digital on the DVD - then again on the CD which is in fact an SACD/CD hybrid with a multichannel layer on it!
Home cinema/hi-res multichannel system owners rejoice. "

I've just ordered it from cdwow too...!

I bought the Deluxe 2 disk edition on Monday and till I read this thread had no idea it was a SACD as the disk has been firmly entrenched in my car on repeat play!

In fact very little mention is made of sacd on the packaging apart from a 1.5mm wide logo.

So to test it I gave it a spin in my 3910....

OMG!!!! Wonderful rich multi channel sound and the SACD light goes on for the second time this week (bought the Super Furry Animals SACD too..a corker too).

I just adore this album.....doesn't grab me as instantly as Black Cherry, but hopefully one that I'll love more and more like Felt Mountain. It's definitely mining the vein of synth glam rock they touched on for the last album, but still has a few of those heart stoppingly beautiful moments that made Felt Mountain so wonderful.

The surround mixes are great, though from the quick listen (at v.low late night volumes) there is a lot going on in the surrounds but not much from the centre. Will give it more of a spin at higher volumes tomorrow.

The DVD 2nd disk has a very entertaining 'Goldfrapp in the home studio' documentary with japing around in their very fine looking home and studio in the countryside, 5.1 dolby digital and DTS mixes of a selection of tracks from the album (will post some more technical stuff about these tomorrow), some great photos and an animated short with Goldfrapp accompaniment..

A bit pricy at £17.99 from my local HMV but if you are thinking of buying one album this weekend then I'd give this one a thought if this is your kind of thing.

I had to buy it as I've never been the same since seeing Alison Goldfrapp rubbing a theremin between her thighs when they last played Manchester......[sigh]

    Regards,

    Ian Guinan

ok, I got this - comes with 2 discs...the cd version is great! fab quality and great music...

I then played the dvd - it's got DTS, DD and PCM stereo - but I thought it was a bit flat sounding...

I haven't got round to playing the SACD version yet tho!

    Folks,

Slightly disappointed with the sacd stereo mix. I think the problem is that a lot of the music is synthesized/computerised, which doesn't really lend itself to high-fidelity very well (imho).

Compared to Roisin murphy on Moloko's Statues sacd (the nearest comparison available), Alison's voice sounds very "processed". I put some female voice cd's on afterwards, which confirmed my view in this regard.

The flaming lips dvda is still the best ri-res "synth" music I've heard. Though having said that, the quality of the sampling on supernature is (generally speaking) better than both the yoshimi dvda and statues sacd.

Problem is, Supernature just doesn't shout "HI-RES", if you see what I mean - it sounds flat.

Great album though, and a comprehensive package for the money

yeah, I wasn't that impressed with the DTS mix either...and the flamin' lips is spot on...tho, the rear effects can be a bit too much at times...

have youy heard tubular bells on sacd..? - I like that

What i mean, is that sometimes you put an sacd on, and get that instant "WOW" factor - where you definitely know you're listening to something special.

This isn't the case with supernature imo.

    DT

P.S. I have tubular bells on vinyl ;)

Finally got around to listening to the multi-channel SACD version and the mix is fine apart from the treble being a bit "spitty"

The actual music on the first listen is a big letdown for me but I'll give it another few goes before finally making my mind up

Hi, I bought the CD at the weekend and thought the SACD was a bit disappointing, popped in the other disc and played the the DTS (96/24) soundtrack and thought it sounded the bees knees. :)

Only problem the last track kept skipping so I need to take the CD back :(

Must say I'm listening to the SACD now and the sound quality is astonishing, the dynamic range is crunching, her voice is liquid.

Not listened to the DTS variant yet.

Track 4 You Never Know has just become my new reference track to show off what SACD can really sound like.

Time Out from the World is my favourite track of the moment though, by any artist, and will be for a long time to come I'm sure. It was the same with Hairy Trees from the previous album...PJ :)

I can't do anything with the SACD track, but, have to say that the DD and DTS tracks are very poor sounding compared to the straight 2ch tracks. I'm not talking about the surrounding mix as such, just the definition/quality of the sounds. IMO, it's a great example of what lossy compression does compared to straight PCM.

    Great album though.
