Reviewed by Russell Williams, 23rd November 2012. It polishes less than perfect source material and has a natural transparency, that lets reference material shine. That's about all you can ask of any loudspeaker.

      Hi Russell,

Thanks for a great review & as reported over the pond, these too are impressive speakers. I really had my heart set on the SS50's but alas, it was not to be!

Out of interest, will these or any GE speakers be offered via select dealers only (as in the USA) or will there be more flexibility?

      Suave!

To be fair, I have no idea what the distribution channels may be. They certainly deserve to be wide, because the performance alone, puts the Supersats right up there with the best.

I can't possibly keep across every importer's distribution channels, so I'd suggest contacting Karma AV to ascertain how and where. :)

The supersat 50s look interesting, and a possible challenger for the MA Shadows. I do hope you are planning to review the Shadows at some point Russ :)

Which brings me to a point that it would be handy if AVF would offer more comparative reviews where we get some measure of how individual components or systems compare to others.

Regarding the Supersat 50 again, how deep is the enclosure? I'm interested in knowing how far off the wall they will stand when wall mounted.

      63mm, as per the specifications.

No, I won't do comparative reviews.

For one, they take a lot of time. For another, the idea that one speaker is 'better' than another is far to fuzzy a concept to be worthy of entertaining. It's entirely dependent on the room in which they are heard and I can 100% guarantee that you won't be using them in the room I am.

Then there's personal preference, which isn't catered for by objective measurement - The only real quantifier of what is, or what isn't. Even if you have time to do measurements and believe me, that's difficult to do consistently, people in general, don't read them the right way. They tend to pick headline figuresd like SPL and freqency extension, ignoring the ones that matter, like polar dispersion and phase, which matter more.

you mentioned the forcefield 4 does drag its feet a little in terms of rhythmic timing. I was wondering if the forcefield 3 subwoofer would make a better match for the Supercinema 50 5.1 system.

      Russ,

I recall that you had reviewed SVS SB12-NSD and was very impressed with the unit. Would like your opinion/thoughts on the performance between the SVS SB12-NSD and Goldenear's ForceField 4? Does both have the same low frequency extension? It appears the SB12-NSD is a "faster" sub since there's no Quadratic Planar Infrasonic Radiator?

The ForceField 4 is appealing to me due to its smaller size - as I'm living in an apartment. I'm concerned about how well it would integrate with my current satellite speakers which require a 180Hz cross over. Goldenears says the Forcefield 4 is good up to 250Hz.

      Steve
