I have monitor audio gold speakers....gr20 fronts and the gr gold center
the center is fed with a rotel RB03 amp from an rsx 1055, when you listen to the speaker up close most of the sound is from the right cone, just a dull sound from the left cone i have it birewired to the amp and obviously the link is removed. i use one set of terminals to the right output of the amp and one set to the left so it is essentially bi-amped (then left to centre 1 out and right to centre 2 out of the av amp)
as there is no bass port does one of the cones give out low frequency and the other midrange even tho the cones are identical.

is this normal. it seems to sound ok, its just with the cones the same i expected to same sound out of each.....or am i being a plank

Most floorstanding speakers with 2 bass ports are 2.5 and not true 3 way speakers.

If the GR centre is 2.5 way, then the second driver will only hit in when the first is struggling. If your amp is set so that the centre speaker is small, then this is unlikely to happen, because the sub or main speakers will take over.

Try changing the centre to large and have another listen.

I am in the process of purchasing some GR20's. What is the centre like and how much did you pay for it?

hi Stevo, i have it on large and it is the same,

the GR20s are amazing, i had castle howard S2s before and the detail and energy that the 20s give out make the howards seem slow.
i had the Bastion center before and again the gold center is a step up, its got superb detail and when the three fronts are firing its superb........saving private ryan is brill to showcase them
be aware that they require a long run in period, about 100+ hours

i purchased my speakers from Doug Brady hifi, the center was £399 and the gr20s were £1200

i have BFX bronze rears, cant justify spending £800 for GFX rears just yet :( :(

when do you get your 20s??

Hopefully soon. Someone on another forum is selling they's for £800.

I have been stuck with a very good amp / cd player and pants speakers for far to long.

I'm pretty sure mine gives the same output from both drivers. I'll check tonight. (GR20s, G-LCR, with AVR300+P90. LCR is single-amped/wired)

    thanks for the reply people.

i have sound coming out of both drivers but when you take the links out and use 1 set of terminals....the bottom + and - set only the left driver works with a dull sound............then when you disconnect those 2 and use the top 2 terminals the right driver and the tweeter work

is this correct, i know on normal speakers this is the case, 1 set for mid and upper and 1 set for bass, but the center uses the same drivers left and right so i thought it would be 1 set does left driver and tweeter and the other set does the right driver and tweeter
is there any chance 1 of you guys checking yours,

any help would be great :)

I will check my GR Centre out tonight, has anyone got the Gold in ceiling speakers? I use a pair of them for rears and I think they are great! In the process of moving so I will be installing 2 pairs for 7.1 in the new place. Allot of work installing them properly but worth it.

having spoken to the monitor audio they have said that this is what should be happening.
the crossover is configured for the right hand driver to do the mid to upper range whilst the left just concentrates on the lower range

at last.....sorted.....my gold is fine and dandy
