Thanks Simon, this was always going to be a demo worthy disc, certainly one to show off to your mates.

Thanks for the review. Definitely fancy this one when the price comes down.

Dissapointing 6-7 or maybe less 😎😎

This series is one of those guilty pleasures, I love the spectacle and the audio for these films is fantastic. I'm hoping for a 4K box set in the run up to Christmas

For me, you have to go into this with the same frame of mind as you would watching the Japanese Godzilla films, especially the Heisei or Millennium era films - in those, teeny tiny singing space fairies are main characters and that's just one example of the total gonzo nature of them. Yet when viewing these western versions, suddenly I find myself having a need to question "Well THAT wouldn't happen in real life.....pfffft".

And so bringing that same, more 'Eastern' frame of mind to this helps entirely just go with some of the more, er, questionable plot points it throws at us.

I thought it good fun in the old Doug McClure/Land that Time Forgot type mould. Just an awful lot prettier.......

absolutely agree this movie gives you exactly what you would expect from the title and the past movies in the franchise - if you didnt like say skull island then this wont be for you

as a brain out movie to enjoy for what it is with a picture and atmos track to make a decent system earn its money then this was always a day 1 purchase for me

Thanks for the review @Simon Crust - your line about Edge Of Tomorrow levels of bass has got me excited for this now! I just received the WB Shop version with the limited cover. Can’t wait to watch it!

I think I have this coming on Sunday as a fathers day prezzie😁

Looking forward to watching & hearing this - I will waste zero time searching for a Plot;
To quote The Avengers
"Hulk, Smash!"
Fine for me.

I loved Skull Island, and enjoyed the Godzilla reboot, but thought King of the Monsters was rubbish (with one or two good fight scenes) - where does this one lie in terms of the other three?

just behind skull island but better than KOM

just watched it on my JVC N5 - visually stunning and just an epic atmos track with a LOT OF LFE

I think 7/10 is very generous for this movie - I was left distinctly underwhelmed by it. The only one in the series I've actually liked so far was Kong: Skull Island, which was definitely a solid 7 - 7.5/10.

As for King of Monsters....don't get me started on that tripe.

Wondering if the HDR metadata is correct as it's only few notches above Skull Island which I thought had lacklustre HDR and was only a subtle improvement over the Blu-ray.

Debunks the beliefs of high bit who*es as VT says...

Skull Island was very entertaining. King of Monsters was awful. This is more King of Monsters than Skull Island but nowhere near as bad.

Worth a watch on a massive screen

Define "massive" :D

The bigger the better - the eye candy will distract the brain from the utter nonsense of the script and all the dull bits with human folk in :)

I loved Skull Island, and enjoyed the Godzilla reboot, but thought King of the Monsters was rubbish (with one or two good fight scenes) - where does this one lie in terms of the other three?
It's no better or worse than KotM and below Skull Island and indeed Godzilla .it is though completely bat shit insane and out there in almost every aspect that makes one cringe , laugh in the wrong places and go " oh for fudge sake " at times .

I may have a dip on a two for one offer ...May.

Interesting that despite being at Atmos track, it doesn't seem to be suffer from the clipped bass curse. There is an interesting frequency curve here:

Which shows it's pretty flat all the way down to 20Hz. Must mean that all those other Atmos tracks which are bass lite compared with their DTS-MA counterparts e.g. War of the Worlds, LOTR, must have had this done deliberately, rather than being a technical shortcoming of Atmos.

I demand royalties for my quote.... " the biggest mash up since the potato ricer".... 😡 Oh hold on I won a BD for that inspired tag line on the poddy online competition. Ok i'll let you have that one.

Glad to see that you have given the disc 10 for picture and especially sound won’t argue that it wasn’t a great film but certainly watchable

If anyone has any idea what went on in this movie, let me know please. The overriding memory is Kong with a Thor's magic axe in the upside down.

Rented this one back at Easter, then when cinemas opened we had to give it a watch on IMAX. It’s good fun but I never need to see it again.
