I have Godzilla on r2 DVD. When I play the DD 5.1 audio option, some moments where I would expect to feel some decent LFE doesn't seem to happen. So I wondered if I just haven't set things correctly or if it's just the way the soundtrack was mixed.

The scene when the Mayor is giving his speech to the press (out in the rain) and you hear Godzilla's footsteps, followed by the scene of parked cars bouncing in the street, I would expect to feel something from the subwoofer to give the full effect of the monster stamping its feet. But I can only hear the thuds, not feel them. However, before he comes running down the street, I do feel the rumble as we see the building crashing down in the background. I would've thought LFE accompanying the loud footsteps would've also been appropriate. Also, the scene in the cafe shortly afterwards when the reporters are talking and they get interupted by the sound of footsteps outside, the thuds are not very convincing.

Does anyone else get this with the disk?

    Thanks.

    You should feel the footsteps.

JSW, is that the region-1 or region-2 version you're talking about? I heard that r2 version has a lesser LFE output than r1. Also, r1 version I think has a DTS option.

I've heard my mates R2 Godzilla and from what I can remember, the bass was bone-crunching. I'm sure the R2 Superbit would be a real demo disc.... it's just a shame about the film

Hmmmm.... so where am I going wrong??????
If I turn the subwoofer up to make G's footsteps shake the room, that setting will be unnecessarily too high for my other films. That means that the JP/// Spinosaur footsteps will knock my house down by comparison. Even Britney Spears sounds more bone-crushing than Godzilla. :)

Just reading about the r1 dvd and it says that the default sound mix is dolby prologic, the r2 my be the same. You have to go into languages or set-up and change it to dolby digital. This could explain why you dont get the full bass when godzilla is walking.

Let us know how you get on.

I already figured that bit out, about the DPL being the default sound-mix so I had to manually set to DD. Still doesn't solve the LFE problem.

My Sony amp has an LFE readout on the front, it blips up and down when you get some good LFE. I to have the R2 version of Godzilla, I will have to give it a run and see what happens.
