I don't know about films being "scary" but there are a few that most definately make me feel uneasy if watching by myself (with the lights off). The three I would recommend most would be:

    1. The Omen.
    2. The Excorcist.
    3. The Shining.

I definately make sure I've locked up the garage etc. before putting the above movies on. They need to be watched late and on your own though.

Get the MIB to zap you with the memory thing then you can watch Alien afresh.

And much as it pains me to say this about a X-Man, I have to agree with you. Was the emotions genuine or just an bad act?

Halle was a bit well prepared on ringing off untold names that'd have to have been memorised. The bit that cracked me up was her saying ,"I've been waiting for 74 years for this", she aint arf looking good on it, mate. LET'S ROCK! But weird how she never even mentioned her co-star?!
Good Denzel won but I can't help think Mr Crowe was being punished, be interesting to know when the votes are finally sent in, they couldn't have been that long ago considering newish contenders sneaking in ala Monsters Ball? Training Day is alright but not 'special'. It may sound racist to some, not intended, but I can't help feel X-Files conspiracy oversell to 'we're so moved on and liberal at the Oscars'. Yeah right. Americans seem to be trying so hard after 'the event' to portray themselves as the country of freedom - as noted on Oscar night - that it feels a little shady to me.

"Alien" scared the bejeezus out of me - its the build up of tension - crawling about in the dark - the shape on the motion tracker getting nearer..........(parp)

didnt see halle berry - but it was apparently a belter - did she "do snot"....you aren't a good actress unless you can do snot (who said that ??)

    Jordan's aren't real???!!!
I must admit to going 'oh what', at HB getting 250 large in Swordfish for showing her jubblies, after seeing Monster's Ball - friend in the biz! - and there they are, thong knickers and various positions. Hazarr!
But back to thread, JC's The Thing definately a film to remember. Also an advert for not letting your cat sleep in your bedroom, the film finishes, you look at it, it's reflecting eyes back at you, you think hum...finally fall asleep...the little buggar decides to pounce on your bed, you need peeling off the ceiling:eek:

I'll second Ring (the original not the two sequels 0 and 2) as the scariest movie I've ever seen.
If you want to be really scared witless then watch this!
There's no gore or sex just suspense and terror

As mentioned before Ring is a good one to make you want a change of pants, another Asian one I thought was scary was Audition, and not so much of a horror film but still quite shoking is Battle Royale.

I haven't seen a scary movie since I was a kid and the thought of Oliver Reed in Hammers Curse Of The Werewolf kept me awake at nights.
For some strange reason after I first saw Jaws I took to opening the bathroom window so I could make my excape easier if a shark was to smash through the door whilst I was sitting on the pan.

    I haven't seen a film that's had that effect in 20 years.
All this new fangled Hollywood stuff that thinks a few loud moments in a film equal scares are seriously missing the point.

THE TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE ... watch it by yourself, after midnight in the dark...
THE EVIL DEAD.... seen it thousands of times - might make you jump ... dunno though
SALEMS LOT .... I know that this is an odd choice, but this is the only film that creeped me out (I've watche dhorror movies all my life, never got scared accept for this) - Again, watchi it in the dark, by yourself, and when the dead kid .... i won't ruin it - but JESUS!
RING ... yup, it's Japanese - don't let reading subtitles put you off, it's excellent ... pity the US are remaking it....
THE THING ... damn good movie ... really suspensful, creepy, worth watching
BLACK CHRISTMAS - yep, THE MOVIE HALLOWEEN COPIED! This was the original slasher ... the first movie to use POV (made in 74, Halloween 78), from Porkies man Bob Clarke - supposedley he was to work on a sequel, with John Carpenter, and it was to be based on Halloween ... Spooky movie too
NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD (1968 b&w) ... the original classic, bnot scary, but tense, and one of the best horror movies ever (TCM is the best) - also check DAWN OF THE DEAD...
SUSPIRIA ... just watch it, if the first death dosn't freak you out, nothing will....
EXORCIST III ... an odd choice? No, not really, this involves Father Karrass (yep, the one who went dow n the steps), coming back from the dead as a serial killer - some good scenes - written and directed by William Peter Blatty (who wrote the original) - if you didn't like the original that much, I still suggest you watch this, it's a different movie - not some girl strapped to a bed spitting peas, but a tension-built serial killer thriller with a chunk of blood in the running .... but wathc the oriinal first if you haven't already

Just remember to add the atmosphere - switch the lights off, late at night, and watch by yourself, really adds to the film.... makes you appreciate it more

I believe we park our cars in the same garage. ;)
In fact, I'll have to go back on what I posted and say that the loony's eye peering through the crack in the door did creep me out.
But not much else has in the last 2 decades.
