I auditioned a set of KEF 5005.2's today, and although they seemed a little bright- the imaging was huge.
The Hero segment of the DTS demo disc was pretty impressive, although tbh we were more impressed by the two channel demo (Mariah Carey) the soundstage was massive with real depth and subtlety.....
The demo room was approx 5x6m

Our lounge at home is a pokey 3.7x3.5m

SO here is my dilema- I really like the build quality and the written reviews of the B&W MT series.. I cant quite stretch to the MT30 with the PV1 (which would probably be massive overkill), so was looking at the MT20.

I have yet to audition the MT20.
Is it worth me holding out for an audition of the MT20?
Are the B&W VM1's all that they appear to be from reading the press??

    Any thoughts are appreciated.

    Tbh- no. I hadn't.

Is it worth comparison with the 5005 series?
    I'm open to suggestions ;)

Hi, I too am considering the 5005.2's, they look fantastic and also sound great playing both movies and music. I think they are the best compromise between a good sounding av speaker package for your movies and a dedicated pair of floorstanders for music without having big speakers taking up half your living space, or a partner moaning at the thought of big speakers taking up half your living space !!
Sats + subs usually dont = music

    IMO most definately.
I've listened to Kef 5005.2 against the B&W MT a few times and prefered the B&W each time. The centre was the main difference imo.
I did like the new Kef sub alot.

Ive recently demoed the M1s with a Velodyne sub (I cant stretch to the PV1 either). This gives you what you want in terms or price. With a bit of discount got the BWs at £112 each and the sub for £449 In terms of performance, well I'm collecting mine today - the demo was jaw dropping - I didn't actually go in to buy the sub but having heard it, together with the reviews and awards - decision made. The demo (cant remember the film - chinese with a drum scene in it) nearly knocked my fillings out.

    Good luck.

    Lanski.

That would be 'Hero' on the DTS demo disc ;)

I went into Sevenoaks this morning, and demo'd the B&W M1's with a £400 REL sub as reccomended to me.
I was hugely impressed with the sub, but the sats did not seem to have such a large soundstage as the 5005.2's.
It seemed that the B&W's really shine at high volume, which having a semi detached house, is not the most practical for me. They really kicked with a 5.1 demo of Roy Orbison though. Again- not such a broad image as the KEF's imho.

Argh.. to add further to the dilema I know they are having a 10% Cashback deal on the B&W M1's redeemable as cabling in store!

I did really enjoy the sub however, and will be using it as a benchmark from now on.

    hmm.
I shall have to mull it over during the xmas period.

I've never found any feedback from anyone comparing the 5005's to the 3005's. They're pretty similar in terms of price. Has anyone tested both of these?!

I have a couple of 2005's as my rears. Very impressed. The main point of this post is to recommend you take a look at the Subwoofers forum. Plenty of alternatives to the PV1.

That's a damn good question- although I have just bought a set of 5005.1's from here on the trading forums.

I know, not 5005.2- BUT a great deal cheaper and for my little room- I doubt that I'll notice a great deal of difference.
Plus I have a big chunk of money left for extra sats and decent cables to go for the 7.1 setup my amp is crying out for!

I will probably go for the REL sub at a later time for some added dynamics.. just don't tell the wife ;)

I've also wondered about this a lot. The 3005's are a bit newer I think and have made some very good critics. I would really like to know how much of an upgrade it is from 3005, to 5005 and even 6000.

I suppose you'll just have to ask KEF directly..
