    Hi.

I now have to install my 11HT.

Tomorrow, I'm gonna buy a screen(hopefully Da-Lite Cinema Vision), a ceiling mount kit, and 15M long component video cable.

How do you guys who owns a projector install these kind of things?

Do you drill walls and install them on your own?
or do you pay "professional" guys to do the installation for you?

I have no idea, since I've never done drilling walls or installing a projector, anything like that.

Can somebody give me an idea how you installed it and what you found difficult?

Any comments, advice would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks.

i hung my crt myself . in comparison insatalling an lcd pj should be a walk in the park

the only real problem i had was locating the studs . i tryed using a stud finder but to make sure i was in the midle of a stud i cut out a small section of plaster board after findin the general position

the other thing is to make sure it is perfectly square with the screen and centered. the best thing is to put up the screen first. then mesure the correct throw dist from the center of the screen .then to make sure it is centered you mesure from both sides of the screen to the point the projector is going to be . if it is th same dist from both sides then you are centered

If it's any help, I have the same problems! I'm about to order a VW11 but I'm not sure how to run cables. I have 3 options:

    1. Run cable up the front wall into attic and over to a ceiling mounted projector.
    2. Run the cables under the carpet and up a wall to a bracket (maybe standsunique wall support)
    3. Put projector on a desk and put cables under a rug!

2 seems like the best option right now as it involves minmal time and effort!

Not sure on which screen yet, either the Da-Lite Model C or Draper Luma. What made you choose Da-Lite Cinema Vision?

Where did you get your VW11 from (and how much) if you don't mind me asking!

    Hello.

I ordered Da-lite matte white instead of cinema vision.(talked to a gentleman called Walter Stewart at direkt2u.co.uk and he said cinema vision has high gain which does not quite suit the projectors like 1000 ANSI lumens. instead he suggested High contrast da mat and matte white. High contrast da mat costs 1014 GBP and white matte 278.45 GBP. They are about 8ft.)

I went to Japan for Christmas holidays and bought 11HT.
    I paid around 3150 GBP. :)

This..cabling and mounting projector and screen gives me headache.

Good luck with your 11HT purchase !! :)

Just shows how much we get ripped off in the UK! I got a better offer today of £3,299 +VAT (£3,876).

I am going to the Bristol hi-Fi show next month so I was thinking of checking out what's on offer there before buying.... who knows, might be even cheaper by then!!

Heh...I know. Everything is EXPENSIVE in UK.

Nigel, if you live near central London, you are more than welcome to visit my place and see the 11HT in action. :)

When you say you have never drilled walls etc, I take it you mean literally a total novice?

If so, I would pay someone to put it up. Even a handy man. The reason I say that is because there are a lot of little tricks to getting good holes, secure fixings etc that would be very handy to know. I know it sounds 'superior', but trust me, the last thing you want to do is end up with holes all over the place and you stood screaming in the middle of the room.;) I know. I learnt all my DIY skills over time. It's not always as easy as it looks.

Also, do you have all the tools? You'l be surprised at what you'll end up needing. I usually have about 4 toolboxes open just to hang a picture.:D

A handy man would charge a fee and you would at least know all is secure.

Sorry to sound neagative, but it might be the best option if you really don't know DIY.

Does anyone in this forum live in London area??

I live in central London, and if someone can help me installing my projector, I'll pay.

Not done drilling since metalwork classes at school!

My dad's a carpenter/joiner and I was hoping he will help me fit mine when he visits in March.

Might need to run cables and put rugs over them until then!

    Nigel/Eric

At last, some South London forum members! I've been off the forum for a while and just logged back in (bored at work ;) )

I live in Oval and installed and set up my own system, including wall mounted speakers and fixed screen (I like to think I'm handy with a drill  !!).

If either/both of you would like to get in touch for help/chat/watching movies then just drop me a line. It would be great to share the joy and pain of the HC experience with some locals!.

I've sent you both private messages about a spare Da-Lite screen I've got.

Before you put your projector on give the mount a good yank to make sure it stays there.

I would hate to see an LCD projector get broken.

    No, really I would.

I hang from every mount I put up then do a few chin ups. (do mean only a few!)
