Does anyone have any info on whether Columbia will be releasing a Region 1 superbit version of Ghostbusters? The Jap version is overly expensive? :suicide:

I know what you mean about the Jap being Expensive, most R2 Jap titles are about £20 - £35,. No i dout that GB Superbit will released on R1 dvd. WHich is a real shame since i would'nt mind buying them, but theres no way i'am gonna pay that much money just for a dts soundtrack.

It won't just be a DTS soundtrack you are paying for, the original Ghostbusters came out on DVD late nineties and had loads of extra crammed onto 1 disc, imagine losing those extras and the space being used to up the bitrate and no compressing of the high frequencies which was common by Columbia back then and still happens today, imagine better compression techniques coupled with all that extra bitrate allowed by losing the extra's and this release of Ghostbusters should be the best looking ( and sounding ) available anywhere in the world

Matt is the twinpack still available at Amazon Japan? I can only find the single disc editions on the site. Disc Emporium have it listed but £69.99 is a bit steep!

Never been hit by customs from amazon.. and I place big orders and always pick the slowest shipping option which a. is cheap and b. my orders seem to be re-shipped from germany hance missing customs..(or basically I may just be lucky?)

The hardest bit with the site is setting up your account. All the account pages can be shown in english.

to navigate the site I use cdjapan.co.jp to find the titles I am interested then and then use the dvd code on there page in the search bar of amazon. You always gets pre-order discounts at amazon and the price shown is further discounted in the checkout pages as I think some domestic type tax is removed as well.

I was able to order 2 of the Kill Bill Vol2 boxes for 6080 yen which is only about £30 each before shipping :).

Its the only place I really buy dvd's now !

It's a shame you can't get this on a 2-disc Superbit with the extras (a la R3 Hollow Man).

Personally I think the prices mentioned above are a bit demented. If you're paying £30 a pop for barebones dvds (without shipping) there must be a touch of Midas about you...

It's worth noting that if you select surface mail (or standard international shipping on Amazon) the chances of your stuff being "appropriated" in transit rise about 20 percent, speaking from experience. You do, however, seem less likely to get caught by customs (particularly Amazon packages, for some reason. I order from Amazon.ca all the time and have never incurred duty).

    regards,
    anephric

I'm a member with amazon.com & .co.uk. Will my details still be on the .co.jp site?

Has anyone else ever been caught by Customs?

No I think the jp accounts are not linked to the other sites.. but its worth a try.

Demented probably.. but I only buy a dvd's these days and I usually wait to see if the Jp release has something special (exta DTS tracks etc). Also once you start buying 4/5 titles at once even with postage the overall cost per disc comes right down.. and the packaging makes thes discs very collectible.. I must have 50 plus Jp R2 discs..

(Most expesive I think was £40 from the forum for the Armageddon DTS disc.. its not anamorphic but once zoomed up on my prog scan tv the picture is a beauty !)

    Cheers

    Matt

Wow. you're dedicated to DTS. I also wouldn't even be able to conceive of buying non-anamorphic NTSC but hey....

I have to admit I'm prefectly happy with Dolby Digital, but my system set-up is such that it isn't worth bothering with the difference I'd be able to distinguish between DD and DTS.

I quite like alternative covers etc but not enough to pay the sort of prices you're talking about.

    Regards,
    anephric

Not dedicated to DTS but rather special editions of movies or rare editions :)

Armageddon was a special case !

I too embarrassed to say who much I folked out for my Japanese copy of Armageddon! By comparison £40 was a good price.
